www.dailydot.com/news/what-55-dollars-gets-you-at-pizza-hut/We like the "Big New Yorker" pizza at Pizza Hut. It is 30% larger than their normal large size pie, with double pepperoni and cheese for $13.99. The Big New Yorker is thin foldable crust such as you buy on the streets of NY City. It is cut into 6 large slices. Kathy is not fond of pepperoni so I inquired as to whether you can substitute sausage for the pepperoni. The only option to substitute toppings is a "special" that allows you to pick 3 toppings of your choice for $19.99. The toppings on that option were rather sparsely scattered and after tax the pizza cost me $22 and change. The days of ordering two large pizzas from Pizza Hut for $17 + tip, delivered are gone forever. I don't know how high pizza prices have become in upstate NY, but I am looking forward to eating a good Utica style pizza and a dozen wings from Joe's in Whitesboro when we are up there in July. I don't care if wings cost more than a prime rib dinner. I am going to savor every succulent bite, haha. We have very few mom and pop pizza joints here, and they are rather lackluster compared to Utica's pizza. We are sick of Papa John's, Domino, Little Ceasar's, and Pizza Hut. We seldom even order pizza here. Normally when we crave a pizza I buy the ingredients and Kathy makes a large pizza on a sheet pan, and we go heavy on the toppings. By the time I buy the ingredients we end up paying more than the cost of take-out pizza, but we get a delicious home made pizza well worth the cost.

We order from Joe's on occasion & I prefer their's to O's any day. We don't order from any of the chains, especially Papa's or Lil Ceaser which suck to high heaven imho. Domino's I can tolerate, haven't ordered from P.H. in years. A large pie around here will run you about $20 . Pizza Boys in N.Y. Mills makes a pie called the Grandma & it's the bomb but will run you about $26 + tax. Excellent.

We used to go to Oscuinizzo's with my son when we came up but the last time the pizza was disgusting and the wings were dry. Never again.

The prices for pizza are crazy and I will not pay for them. I bought a slice well a square of tomato pie up at Slocum Dickson yesterday for $2.17. Excellent. I can wait till May for another slice providing the price does not go up. LOL I am not a pizza eater. I hate O's stuff especially that time 7 years ago when I ordered for delivery. It took them 4 hours and I got a cold pizza. I wanted to order at Lafe the Mediterranean eaters on Commercial Drive the other day. The wrap I ordered of chicken shawarma came to $7. and change. The delivery would have cost me $8, I decides not to bother. I wish the Bus would stop on that side of Commercial Drive but the police will not allow them to stop on Commercial Drive.

Back in the 70's I had a similar experience with O'Scuinizzo's PB. We had a couple over to play cards and ordered a pizza. 2 or 3 ours later after calling them back twice, they delivered an ice cold pizza. When I refused to take it and pay for it, the guy unloaded a tyrade of swearing, opened the box and dumped the pizza on my front lawn, called me every name in the book and left. I soon got a call telling me that they were putting our address on a "no delivery" list of some sort. That was when I started ordering from Rosario's and continued to do so until they closed. I guess in recent years the quality of product and service have both gone to hell.

My Italian grandmother who knew the original owner said they mix the dough with there feet. For that unique flavor!!!!!
The best place that closed up was in the North Utica Shopping Center called Donatelli's. I went once a week had a slice of there Sicilian pizza and brought some wine from the liquor store. Was excellent. I also gained several pounds. I don't knew why they closed and I do miss them. They also served me my version of macaroni and cheese the way my grandmother made it: Pasta ziti cooked then drained then add fresh ricotta cheese some pecorino and fresh parsley. DELICIOUS Now I am hungry.

Joe's is closer anyway & the staff is very friendly. The best pizza I ever had was at Regal Restaurant on Bleecker St & Jefferson Ave. in east utica. I burnt my mouth many times when their pizza was brought to our table piping hot from the oven. They closed years ago & I haven't had a pizze that good ever since.

I mentioned it to the guy behind the counter and he said that they prebake the crusts the night before. I told him how disappointed I was. His answer? In a rude tone of voice he said "if you don't like our pie, go somewhere else," and walked away.

Pizza’s here have gone through the roof here too. I use to grab a slice at Wegmans for a snack if I was there for lunch. It was about 2.99 for a thin dinky slice. Today the same slice has jumped to 4.00. Not a big fan and would never order a pizza from them. It costs me roughly around 30.00 for a med pizza and 6 wings…way to much to spend if Im just craving a slice now and then. Last Friday I bought a pizza from Aldis my friend pointed me to for 4.99. (Self rising crust). It actually wasnt that bad but if I were to get it again I would add more cheese and a bit more sauce. Last time I was at Oscugnizzios was when Chops still ran the place. Thats when it was the best..sorry to hear its gone down hill.

We like Aldi's pizza, and yes, we add crumbled loose Italian sausage and extra mushrooms on it, along with some extra cheese. It is actually quite good and even with the extras it is much cheaper than take-out pizza. Food City has a reasonably priced pizza that is quite good, but the toppings are a bit sparse. Add toppings and it competes with pizza parlor pizza, and it is "take and bake" if you wish to order it that way. You can buy it fresh and wait while they bake it or buy it raw and take it home and bake it.
Kathy occasionally will make her own crust and bake a home made pizza, but usually when we eat pizza it is as a quick, no fuss meal when we are busy or she doesn't feel like cooking. Making the dough and proofing it is a tedious task.
