Anyone following the OD threads on the snowmobiling accidents and such? Other than myself and the other posters from this forum, and you know who you are LOL, there are soem real nitwits over there. The OD started another thread because the first one was not going their way, go figure.

By my last count, there are 5 snowmobiling topics there now. You got to hand it to those moderators. They sure know how to kill a discussion.

I wouldn't get into it, everyone over there is an expert.
I can't imagine going outside during the winter, let alone driving 55MPH+ through the woods in the snow.
So I just read all the comments....
....and LMAO!!!!

I tried posting in one of the discussions. The phrase "avid snowmobiler" has a whole new meaning in those OD discussions. I'd swear some of the riders were also manufacturers! It's great to defend a sport that you enjoy, but what good does it do to ignore the obvious?

I have no idea if this is for a real race or if it is just the "locals" messing around, but case in point! The title was 176 MPH on Goose Bay & it was listed on our local news site, Newzjunky.com & article and video provided by abaynews. www.abay.com/abaynews/news_item.asp?NewsID=690

I wouldn't get into it, everyone over there is an expert. Funny, I don't know how many times people got sarcastic calling me an "expert" when I have to point out I've never once, in any post there, claimed to be an expert in anything. Not once. It is funny. I got a bashing about the snowmobiling stuff because I haven't ridden one. But yet, I can comment on it because some of what goes on defies common sense. Things like speeding in the middle of the night through a dense forest, duh. Yeah that's bright, those people get what's coming to them in the end. How about riding drunk, another bright move. Or maybe riding without a helmet on a snowless field? Hey, maybe all snowmobilers aren't bad, but to have a blind eye to what is going on is foolish and neglectful. Sooner or later one of the "safe" snowmobilers will cross paths with one of the really "bright" ones and they'll wished they addressed the issue earlier.

I was noticing that. At least your posts made sense. Like you stated, there is a certain amount of common sense to be applied no matter you have ridden one or not.
Go figure.

Speed has always been mans down fault (other than woman) on any type of machinery. Of course there is always the one that will push the envelope or abuse the technology.
The stupid safety accidents and operating machinery while intoxicated are always going to be a problem rather it is the automobile, boats, planes, snowmobiles, 4-wheelers, motorcycles and etc etc.
I cannot condone this behavior or justify it, just merely stating facts from proving past history. There is no amount of awareness that will totally end this behavior along with anything else that happens in the world today.
Unfortunately innocent people sometimes pay the price for this behavior.

I have read those posts everyday since they put them up. It has declined and descended from informed discussion to the usual people keeping the threads going by degrading and criticizing anyone else that posts, and by picking fights and making sarcastic remarks. I guess if that is what keeps that forum going, I will concentrate my efforts and time on this forum! Haha! ;D

Call me an expert, but this is the textbook example of Dawrin's theory of evolution. Survival of the fittest. Cleansing the gene pool. Nature has to get rid of the weakest links somehow. I just hope nature did so BEFORE they spawned offspring.

Swimmy: If I weren't paying the tab for Medicaid, I'd agree with you. But seriously, I've often thought that society is indeed hamstringing evolution. Smarter people than I have noted that it seems those who contribute the least have the most children and drain the most resources. Tommi and I are going to check with Jesus about that.

Hahahahaha. It's interesting you should mention that. Only in America can a 12 yr old boy recover monetary damages for sticking his manhood into an un-covered vacuum cleaner fan vent while the vacuum cleaner is turned on. Only in America (California to be specific), can a woman successfully blame a negligent car accident on her becoming a nymphomaniac which ended her marriage of 21 years. Only in America can you sue a man for giving you an std, but convinced you not to use a condom (though I happen to agree with that one, if you intentionally mislead someone about your health you should pay). Only in America can you successfully sue for spilling hot coffee or your naughty parts.

The laws of nature are tried and tested with millions of years of evidence that they work. Why are we humans the only stupid ones trying to change that? lol

;D I just read the latest hostile bullshit on the OD forum. We have been promoted to the "rebel" message board by our "adoring fans". It is just silly that the OD lets a thread keep going on and on when it is long since declined to nothing but personal attacks and sarcasm and no longer promotes any logical or productive discussion. The subject of the thread and pertinent information has long since become redundant, and the sole purpose now seems to be who is the smartest and who can one treat with the most hostility. I laugh when I see that new blood has been drawn into the game every time I click onto the thread. It is like "jump in here and make a comment, so I can make you look like a total idiot, and belittle your intelligence and dignity". I read over there, and post once in a while, but not often anymore. I find that this forum has developed a personality of it's own, and I like the fact that we can post and not be shredded by pitbulls for stating an opinion not agreed with. It may not be as exciting and heart stopping, but I like the civility and the idea that things are tolerantly "discussed" instead of "banged out with unproductive hostility". Each forum I read has a "personality" of it's own. Reading them all brings spice to life. I am glad that we have added this alternative to our lives, and I enjoy each and every one of you that post and belong to the membership here. Thanks for your participation! Gotta say, I don't feel badly that the ongoing bloodmatch is over there and not on this board.

The civility helps extend the debate and keep it open to different ideas. Plus it makes people more accepting of different viewpoints. Something that has all but gone extinct in our society.
It wouldn't be so bad if people stopped to actually understand what they read. I'm guilty of it and have to go back and re-read before I finally post my response. I guess because I'm still very hot-tempered I'm easily suckered into it. But I'm getting better. :-)
