;D The only problem with this forum, is that when a thread begins to fade or degrade, it usually slips into silliness or friendly poking fun, instead of hostility. I have to admit, our threads go astray more often than theirs do, but they go in friendlier direction!! ;D Oh well! What would bobbbiez and I do in our retirement, if it were not for having the forum to bust each other's chops on!!

they don't really stay on point either, they just turn to rude and insulting attacks.

I like the fact that we can post and not be shredded by pitbulls for stating an opinion not agreed with. I assume that means bobbbiez, not withstanding, of course.

Swimmy and Clipper, I agree with you that the comment about "if people stopped to actually understand what they read." Or if they could cite particular references to support their opinion. A couple of years ago I belonged to a forum on modern developments in religion and, yes, it sometimes got toxic when people got testy. But mostly folks got upset by opinions unsupported by any other reference at all and members quickly learned to do a little research before spouting off an opinion. I don't think we have the same kind of forum here, but I did take a lesson from that experience.

I am guilty of getting annoyed when someone spouts off an opinion that is so obvious they haven't done an ounce of research to support it. I am more likely to have a less civil reply to someone who spouts an opinion as fact only for me to find out they are not only mistaken, but completely wrong. Sometimes their so extreme I just let it go. But when they start to sway a bunch of people, I can't sit idly by.
When I ask for references, it's not because I'm trying to be a jerk. It's because I'm unaware of what you're talking about, have had no luck verifying it on my own and would like to know and understand more about how you reached your conclusions.

Then there are us computer illiterate, that have to rely on others to do the research, or else go to the library, haha. Unless there is a link to it on the thread, I would never find the research material, LOL! ;D Well almost never!

It's because I'm unaware of what you're talking about, have had no luck verifying it on my own and would like to know and understand more about how you reached your conclusions. That's called citing a source, or in the case of written documents, its a reference. I know exactly what you are talking about. "Well, according to this, there has only been..." but yet no link or reference to where this information comes from. Yeah, ok, and it should be taken as truthful and factual because the poster says it is? Sure. Another thing also that gets me about this issue with sources is when someone claims this info, and upon being requested for the source, they say find it yourself. Um, hello, its the proof that backs up YOUR claims not mine, so until its provided it might as well be made up. Kinda like hearsay, right swimmy?

That too annoys the me to no end. Don't tell me to re-invent the wheel, put up or shut up. I couldn't agree more with you on that froggy.

OK...here is my snowmobilie expierence for tonight. I was driving down Old River Road when two snowmobiles pulled out from Casey's (a bar)in front of me to cross the road. I slammed on the brakes so I didn't hit them. When they got across the road I gave them a wide berth and went around them only to have one on the side of me speed up as I was speeding up and the other one got directly behind me. So....if I slammed on the brakes the ass behind me would have hit me. So I sped up to get away from them but the ass next to me did too. So that's how we went down the road doing 55 mph until they met up with some trees and had to go a different way.
Must have been another two of those "responsible" snowmobilers I keep reading about.
