I never thought I would see pig brains on menus, but I tried them mixed with scrambled eggs once in Clarksville Tn. Once was enough. Possum? I know people who have eaten possum. It is not illegal in Tennessee to kill a possum if it is a pest or is destroying property A fellow I was quite close friends with when we first moved here shot one that was a pest. It was nesting in his crawlspace under his double wide trailer. He asked me if I wanted to try the stew he made with it. NOPE! No thanks. I stopped by his garage one day in summer and he was dressing out a deer hanging from the garage door track. I asked him where he got it and he said it was laying beside the road on his way home from work. I asked him how long it had been laying there. He said he didn't know BUT THAT IT HADN'T STARTED TO BLOAT YET. I love venison, but road kill in the summer heat? NOPE NOPE NOPE! lol If you don't care for the possum you might want to try the Skunk ala King.

Those things are ugly animals. When I lived in Missouri they would hang upside down over the compost bin out in the backyard on the other side of the property. Occasionally one would fall in and die and you could see them rot away in the compose which was a nasty mess.

We have had a huge possum around here for 4 or 5 years. I am inclined to believe it is the same possum because it grows larger every year. It doesn't bother anyone or anything. I think it lives across the road somewhere. I have seen it ambling up through the side yard from that direction around dusk on several occasions. I visits our carport and side yard fairly frequently. The motion activated flood lights on the carport come on and when we look out the kitchen window the old possum is simply wandering through on it's way up the hill in the side yard and catches the scent of our trash can, although it cannot get into it. The only close encounter I have ever had with a possum was once when I accidentally left the garage and shop door raised on a hot summer night. I went out to put away some tools and shut the door. When I walked to the bench and turned on the lights there was a rustling under the bench and the possum came out of there, scaring the crap out of me, and scampered out the door.
On a side note, possums are rumored to consume ticks as part of their diets. In this part of the country ticks seem to thrive and can be a problem. Part of our southern outdoor routine is to check yourself for ticks if you have been working under trees or in taller grass.

They're harmless critters & yes they do eat a lot of insects including ticks. We see one here on rare occasions in summer but they don't bother anyone. Skunks are a different story. Not a big fan. Or groundhogs either that get into my garden. Lol.
Speaking of roadkill. I've heard that D.O.T. & other highway workers have to wear a Haz Mat suit when picking up roadkill deer because they're infested with so many ticks that it's hazerdous to their health to not be protected.

At least they pick them up in NY State. Here in this area unless they are in the city they leave them on the side of the road. If you hit a deer and call the police they simply fill out a report, drag them out of traffic and leave them. We occasionally drive by a rotting black skeleton remains of a deer with buzzards picking at it. We passed one at night once and there was a coyote feasting on the deer carcass. Seems as though TDOT should pick them up and take them to the dump rather than to leave them rotting on the roadside.

He lives on his farm in Tenessee now and is always posting pics of a possum he calls his pet. ( I think he is just being funny and the critter just wanders onto his property). But it creeps me out each time he posts a pic of it 😱

wibx950.com/ixp/40/p/heres-where-to-buy-delicious-groundhog-meat-in-new-york-state/Has everyone ordered their groundhog meat for tomorrow's celebratory dinner? We are skipping it this year. With inflation we can't afford $40 per pound. Just got back from having the oil changed in the car. Since we can't afford woodchuck, we are heading out to Longhorn Steak House later for a birthday dinner. 76 doesn't feel any different than 75 did. Just glad I still have my own choppers to destroy an 8 oz. filet mignon. Old Phil might be in jeopardy and might need some serious security protection tomorrow. One of those guys in a top hat that are always in attendance may decide to toss old Phil on the grill.
