wibx950.com/decision-made-on-utica-complete-streets-design-trail-period-extended/What genius decided that this was a safe practice for either the truck driver OR cars going by on both sides of the truck. Are the delivery drivers supposed to peek around the corner of their truck and then run like hell, playing chicken while wheeling a two wheel handcart loaded with goods? 90 more days of Palmieri's plan. Hopefully some poor delivery person won't have to get killed or injured before your mayor and his contracted engineers find the plan a bit dangerous and work out an alternative. I wonder what would happen if drivers simply refused to deliver to those merchants along that stretch. I bet the intended recipients of those goods would be dancing on the mayor's desk until he made a change. The plan may improve traffic flow but SOMETHING needs to be done other than forcing delivery vehicles to park in the center of the street. He is concerned about traffic flow issues when the hospital opens? He wasn't too concerned when he signed on to allow for the destruction of any the traffic patterns gobbled up by the hospital project.

I must be missing something. How could that possibly work?

It is not GOING to work and I hope no one has to get hit by a car to prove that point. We were recently in Kingsport and saw a car carrier unloading in a similar lane on a 4 lane city street. The driver was huddled up against the side of the trailer trying to unhook the chains holding the cars in place while cars were passing by at 35 mph just 2 or 3 feet from him. One would think that sheer common sense should make it illegal to do so.

Hopefully LaFayette St will become a one way traffic to the hospital and Cornelia Street will be one way heading back downtown. I think that is the only way traffic flow will work when the hospital opens. Something seriously has to be done about how delivery trucks deliver business there orders. To bad no one thought of back doors when those stores were being built.

I travel down Genny to get to work every day. It's a crap shoot. No one is using the center for deliveries, they use the bike lane. The center lanes on most of the short blocks there don't offer enough room for a delivery truck in the center and a turning lane at each end. I have only seen a UPS truck in the center once, thought the driver was going to buy it when he stepped out. People picking up food orders for themselves or delivery simply double park in the bike lane, right along with the tractor trailers that are making deliveries. When most places are closed on Sunday, I can sail right to work, provided that Susie Slow Poke isn't sight seeing. Most days I want to hang out a flag, put all my lights on and wave out the window, because I feel like I'm in a parade. People coming from N. Utica have to squeeze two lanes into one just as they are coming to the Busy Corner, and there is really only room in the turning lanes for one car to wait. Traffic going North in front of the Stanley faces the same problem without a turning lane. When it's busy it's like trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube! I can't wait for warm weather and events at the Stanley, where you have folks all over the place and trying to get to the restaurants there as well. It was dicey before........won't get any better now! If it's not busy, it's not too bad. When the new hospital opens, it IS going to be bad. But, we're going to spend our tax dollars on some high priced engineering firm to tell us all will be well. Right up until they start scraping cars and people off of the blacktop. I hate it when folks piss on my back and try to tell me it's raining.

I say close traffic in downtown Utica from the busy corner to end of museum. Create a huge park like atmosphere with clowns and musicians performing. Bring in food trucks once or twice a week. Offer free horse ride for the kids and senior citizens. In the summer months free female mud wrestling.

They have totally screwed up entire traffic patterns from John St going west all the way to the North South arterial. Why they built a roundabout on Oriskany Blvd near John St is beyond comprehension.
Hopefully the traffic "experts" won't come up with any more bright ideas.
