Just reading all the news from the newspapers and Channel 2 it looks like the snow is still coming and the roads are pretty snotty.
The weather here is just plain miserable and gloomy but the temperature roller coaster rolls on. Only going to 39 today with snow showers. No accumulation. Tomorrow it will be 49, and Wednesday it will hit 60. By the end of the week it will be back in the 30s again.
We have usually had snow that has stayed on the ground for a few days by now. We have had accumulations of up to 10-12 inches in past years, but this year the temperature is going up and down like a yo-yo with no snow that has covered the ground as of yet. A least when we lived in CNY we would get used to winter weather, adapt, think nothing of wearing heavy clothes, from November to late March, and drive carefully. Here a minor spitting of snow that covers the grass, or that makes the roads the least bit slick, closes the schools, cancels all the events, cars are in the ditches, rush hour accidents all over the area, and everything comes to a dead stop until all is melted.
When we lived in NY a heavy snow normally required nothing more than having to shovel the driveway before work and leaving early enough to take it slow. When we get any significant snow here I normally limit any travel and stay home until the roads are clear. I have no desire to join the circus and get wrecked by some southern born, clueless knucklehead driving too fast for conditions.

We got about 6 wet heavy inches. The snowblower could barely handle it & neither could my back after shovelling the deck off. More on the way for mid week the last I heard.

Yup when I woke up at 9:30AM and I opened my blinds on picture window I said a naughty word upon viewing that white stuff all over the place and the trees were totally covered with heavy snow. Got up had my coffee and 3/4th cup of plain non fat yogurt with blueberries and blackberries then dressed and headed to Kellogg Mall. I find on these days I can at least wait for the next bus or walk to the drug store or wine store in a covered sheltered walkway. I found some very good deals.
Tuesday is total snow removal of parking lot. All cars and residents cannot use the parking lot from 10:30 AM to 12:30 AM/ I will be out of here at 9:45AM head to the gym then on errands and bach home at 3:20PM avoiding the mess.
I keep telling myself it is 80 degrees out with a gentle wind and sunny skies but it is not working out that well.

In our apartment building when they're going to plow the parking lot the time is always 1:30pm and we have to have our cars out of the lot by 1:00pm. They plowed yesterday, so I always go shopping when they're plowing. My next door neighbor came with me. We came back to a neatly plowed parking lot and a cart full of groceries and a few items from another store. So Mother Hubbard's Cupboards are no longer bare and we're good until the next snowstorm.

Between us, Barb and I got the driveway and walk cleared. Very heavy stuff. I was not terribly adverse to the idea that in upstate NY it is necessary at times to dive into the snow removal ritual before going about your day, but when the snow is wet and heavy it becomes a different story. When we lived on Herkimer Road the city plow would turn the corner onto Domenica Court and dump a wad of slush and snow in the mouth of our driveway which was only a short distance from the corner. The heavy wet snow would plug the chute on the snow blower and I would have to stop, shut down the machine and poke the snow out of the chute with a stick. Even the 11hp machine was not able to keep the chute from plugging. I also had to deal with the trash and litter that low-lifes would toss in the street as they departed Fast Trac. I hope you and Barb take lots of breaks and don't overdo it. The exertion it takes to shovel snow can be dangerous as we age.

In my apartment complex the same thing is done but the time is from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. I am waiting then I will leave for Walmart at 1:45PM. Must be prepared for Wednesday into Thursday for a nasty storm is once again on it;s way.........
