There should be a special place in Hell for people who perpetrate crimes against the elderly and defenseless. This kind of crime will not be deterred until the "good folks" have as many guns as the "bad guys." Lowlifes like this might be a bit hesitant to perpetrate a home invasion and robbery if a few of them are met at the door with someone with a handgun bigger than the one they are carrying. Someone who blows them halfway down the hallway with a hole in their chest the size of North Carolina. If not for the fire alarm interrupting things and sending the perpetrator fleeing, this incident could have ended with the old lady dead

They caught another genius who was in WalMart I think North Utica boosting, but got away. Dummy returned to the SAME WM later that day, cops were called & she was promptly arrested. Turned out to be a Juvie who was released to her parents who will probably read her the riot act for getting caught with nothing to show for it.

There's a back story to this that I can't say much about, but it shouldn't have happened to begin with. But yes, the moron came back and was arrested for it. |

Thank God there was a "responsible" concealed carry gun owner who was able to end the situation without shooting, or anyone being more seriously injured. When I got my concealed permit there was a rash of daytime as well as night-time home invasions, as well as parking lot assaults, carjackings, and ATM robberies. I carried a gun for several months after that even during the day. Things seem to have quieted around here during the day. Now I only carry if I am going into a crappy, crime ridden area, or when out at night, especially if I have to walk to and from my car in a parking lot, or use an ATM. There is a lot of liability as well as responsibility that goes with carrying a concealed weapon. If a person un-holsters their gun there better be serious threat to their personal safety, or someone else's life is in immediate jeopardy. God forbid you should be in a situation where you actually shoot someone. There would be an investigation and possible criminal liability, and even if it is determined that the shooting was justified, you are still open to a civil suit by the victim or their family. No room for gun happy wannabe heroes. Two local cases. A year or so ago a man entered a dental office and shot his estranged wife to death. He then turned the gun on the dentist who he thought was having an affair with his estranged wife. When a patient in the waiting room, carrying concealed gun, heard the shot he went into the office and found the shooter holding a gun to the head of the dentist. He shot the guy and saved the doctor's life. He was declared a hero by law enforcement and media. In another case a man was shopping in a mini-mart when a robber came in and waved a gun at the clerk. The concealed carrier pulled his gun and told the robber to drop his gun and get on the floor. the robber turned to him and pointed his weapon at him. At that point he shot the robber and killed him. He was acquitted of any criminal charges but faced a million dollar civil suit from the dead man's family. While his home and assets were hanging in limbo for over a year before the case was finally was settled in his favor. I am selfish and self centered. I am most likely not pulling my weapon unless someone is a serious threat to either Kathy or myself. I am not going to shoot someone and find out later that their gun wasn't loaded and I myself end up in a lengthy mess.
