A couple days ago the wife was in WM north utica to pick up a few things. While in there she grabbed a jar of Hellman's. At the checkout she rang it up & while bagging it she noticed that on the bottom the mayo was discolred, almost a dark gray color. She alerted the clerk who voided the transaction. Yesterday I was in WM N.H. & grabbed a jar of Hellman's without really looking at it. Sure enough when I got home it was the same deal. The mayo was dark, almost gray. So this morning my assignment was to go to Wally & return that jar, which I did. We need mayo so I went to the condiment aisle & I'll be damned, after looking at a couple jars they were both discolored. I finally gave up & grabbed a jar of Kraft's. I haven't heard of any recalls so I don't know what's up with that brand because none of the jars we bought were expired.

I guess I am glad that we keep 6 or 8 jars on hand. Sounds like a recall is definitely in order. If I had to guess it is caused by something in the jar before it is filled and not in the mayonnaise. Not a real good time for them to have to recall their product. If Hellman's has a recall there will be a run on the other brands and shelves will empty quickly.

You would think that whomever put the jars pn the shelf while stocking would have alerted there manager or supervisor.

We put the Kraft next to the Hellman's & the difference in color can definetely be seen.

Sounds like it may have froze at some point. When mayo freezes it separates and the oils in it usually either rise or settle. Most of the numbnuts that stocked with me when I was stocking couldn't seem to realize this and put it on the shelf anyway.
May is getting out of hand. I put a jar of Hellman's back the other day and went with the Great Value, since there was a $2.00 difference in the price.
