So much for the 50s and 60s. Temperatures are dropping like an express elevator. Only 20 this morning but going to get worse between now and Christmas. We will be seeing a possibility of our first snowfall this week and temperatures in the single digits are expected at night on Friday and Saturday.
I can't believe how intolerant of the cold my old body has become since moving South. That is further exacerbated by blood thinners. I was out running about town yesterday afternoon and it was only in the mid forties. I had on my winter jacket and a knitted hat and was still freezing my butt off. I guess it is time to break out the insulated undershirts. I bought some in dark blue and maroon to wear under my shirts, and I bought two more sweat shirts also. We always kept the thermostat at 68 in winter, but now that Kathy and I both take blood thinners we have found that we need to keep it at 73 during the day and only turn it back to 68 at night when we pull the blankets up and burrow in.
Hard to believe that when we lived in NY I was fairly comfortable bundling up to run the snow blower and at one time even enjoyed snowmobiling for hours on end. Heck, I used to sit on a stump for hours waiting a deer to wander into range. I am afraid if I still lived in NY we would have to hibernate like an old bear from the first of December until spring.

I've been wearing thermals for a couple weeks now. Temp is 28* here now with a slight breeze & temps this weekend won't hit 20*. Stay warm.
Wife is sicker then hell. Went to Dr who tested her negative for Covid so he told her she has a respiratory virus that is hitting a lot of people around here. Gave her an antibiotic. So far I've dodged it, watch out it is one nasty virus. I was thinking about masking up but it's probably too late anyway. I think I'll pound down some Vitamins C & D. Can't hurt.

Yes, some people I know have gotten quite sick this winter and it is still early in the respiratory virus season. Also I read yesterday that the monoclonal antibody treatment is being temporarily suspended. The virus has evolved enough that it is no longer effective. It needs to be reformulated. I had that treatment when I had Covid last season and found it to be helpful.

Now there's a shortage of Children's Tylenol for colds/flu. Apparently it's nowhere to be found. I checked Amazon just for the heck of it & if you order it now the shipping time is 1-2 months. If Amazon doesn't have it, nobody will.

I am cold all the time myself during winter. I have my heat at 75 and right now I feel cold. Be glad when spring and especially summer returns with some good ole heat.
BHU I hope you wife doesn't have what I had. Just be ready to take her to hospital if she has distressed breathing. I was lucky because I had my oxygen concentrator at home and I pumped that up to level 4.5 and took 1200 then 2000 milligram's of mucus relief plus an expectorant to loosen the phlegm and expel it. I also had an antibiotic.

Also I read yesterday that the monoclonal antibody treatment is being temporarily suspended. The virus has evolved enough that it is no longer effective. It needs to be reformulated. I had that treatment when I had Covid last season and found it to be helpful. Kathy went through about 2-3 weeks of respiratory crap. We didn't get real sick, but it was miserable. As for monoclonal antibody treatment, I credit it as saving Kathy's the second time she had covid. The first time the doctor said that a combination of medications, high flow oxygen therapy, When she had her first bout around this time of year in 2020 she was given convalescent plasma and immune globulins. Convalescent plasm was the best they had to work with early in the game. Thank God it worked. She has dodged the ventilator twice. We are very careful to avoid her being exposed or catching it again. I hope they can develop an updated monoclonal antibody formula. Monoclonal antibodies seem to work real well in turning people around fairly quickly in many cases. The last time Kathy went in by ambulance she could not get a breath but she was back home 5 days later and only needs oxygen therapy at night. 3 Liters hooked to a Cpap. During the day she does fine without it. I hope Barb gets feeling better real soon and has no complications. At our ages anything respiratory is scary.
