I just read a long list of school closures. Seems every school within a 50 mile radius is closed. Some people report 6 inches and snowing hard. The weather channel is warning people to avoid travel and to stay off of the Interstates in PA and I-81 and the Thruway in NY. I hope you all are able to stay off the roads and stay in where it is warm and safe.
The video on the news reminds me of the days driving through blizzard like conditions to get to work. Glad I don't have to do THAT anymore.
We may see our first snow this weekend with little accumulation, but when it even threatens to snow where everyone panics. When I was out this afternoon all the county pickup trucks I passed had the snow blades already on and salt and sand spreaders in the beds. If we get any snow at all it is not predicted to arrive until Saturday into Sunday.

Nothing here right now. The weather channel crew is here today. The just had a shot of the cars speeding by on a wet Genesee St. They were dressed in their cold weather turnout gear. Mayor LaPolla was wearing a light jacket and no hat.

Blizzard conditions right now. White out in progress. Quick send a sleigh so I can travel to Walmart. You are a braver man than I am. I would certainly not be standing outside, waiting for a bus anywhere in that weather unless Walmart was handing out $100 bonus checks to their loyal shoppers and were limiting the time they were available to just today.

Out & about today doing some Xmas shopping. Only crazies like me were out doing THAT. Had the truck in 4x most of the time & saw only one car in a snowbank who missed the exit getting on Rte 12 headed south. This stuff is heavy. Had to clear out the chute on the snowblower numerous times because it kept clogging up. But got er done. I read somewhere that there's another big one headed our way end of next week.

Probably a good day to Christmas shop if you have a 4x4 truck. The stores were probably not too crowded were they? This is the first time in many years that I do not have a 4x4 pickup. When we lived up there I seldom had a hard time getting around in the snow with good snow tires and 3 or 4 hundred pounds of ballast over the rear axle.
I am glad that we aren't up there anymore. I bet this little Equinox won't be terribly good in snow, even with AWD. I don't know how much it weighs, but it doesn't weigh much. Not many people here with snow tires. I seldom see them on anything other than heavy duty pickups and jeeps. I imagine the folks in the mountains around us put on snow tires in winter, but we seldom get enough snow to need them. When it snows or gets slippery here I usually avoid going out unless I have to. People here have no clue how to drive on snow or ice. Within no time after snow starts the scanners feed lights up with accidents all over the place. Better to just stay out of their way, haha.

We had a guy try to pull into our driveway yesterday. Son Michael had cleared it earlier but the plow had plugged the entrance. The guy promptly slid into the pile next to the driveway and started spinning his tires trying to back. Grandson Mike Jr. went to help while I got a coat and winter boots. By the time I got out there, several neighbors were trying to help him including one with a snowblower. He kept spinning his tires while swearing a blue streak.
I learned that he was a door dash driver trying to make a delivery to one of my neighbors. She came to get her food and he swore about the tip. Eventually he called his father-in-law to come with a 4WD truck and a tow line and all the neighbors left. Barb offered to let him wait inside but he elected to stay in his car. I bit my tongue and did not suggest that he get some winter driving lessons.

Another winner without AAA which costs about $8/month.

I assume that the food was most likely getting cold, and why would she give him a big tip if she had to get dressed up in winter duds and come and get her food. Not exactly an efficient, successful, and timely delivery.

My little tank drove just like it always does..........right through it. Had toshovel a bit to clear out around the truck as the snowblower won't handle this semi frozen Jello stuff. You would have thought with only "one lane" on Genny to plow they would have had that clean, but no. They just sort of scraped one path on each side and let the rest go. No center lane, no bike or parking lane, just a railroad track feeling path on each side. They need to go back to the way it was.

Barb had to go out to help at the food bank at church and had no problem. The roads were wet but not slippery. We pay a lot in taxes but the town is pretty good about things like maintaining the roads.
Barb was very impressed with the guy who ran the holiday food bank this year. People had scheduled pick up times. The donated food was all in neatly arranged bins. The volunteers were given computer generated pick lists. As the bins were emptied they were put back in their proper location to be ready for next time.

One would think that they would have tried this experiment during say, oh I don't know maybe spring/ summer & not right before winter so it wouldn't turn into a winter time sh*t show, but what do I know.

Talk concerning the next winter storm is that it approaches us before Christmas the line between the storm and the possibility of a bomb cyclone are very close.
I also want to know who was it that developed this new travel plan for downtown and why was it not allowed to be tested this past summer or the next summer to come. Someone is in a hurry to shove this thing into the fast lane for fast improvement.

When I was slinking down Genny yesterday there was some sort of event at the Busy Corner that required UFD to come in. No clue whether it was an accident or what, but it was interesting to see them coming down the middle of the road, through all the slop there and splashing it all over the place. North bound traffic had to go left over Columbia Street and down Seneca to Oriskany St., which was a real treat as with the new hospital construction, it was simply a shit show. I don't know how UPD does it with their lot and exits all boxed up like a turd in a toilet bowl. I suspect that it was done like that so we would all forget about it come spring and just let it be. Needs to go back to the way it was and DPW needs to step up and take care of it. Used to be at least Genny was fairly well plowed, not so much at all yesterday, and everyone saw it coming too.
