apnews.com/article/russia-ukraine-inflation-kyiv-economy-moscow-83c86b1e5997330bc7abb8e0e38c16adWhile many of us are concerned about the impact of the war in Ukraine on OUR economy, we give little thought to the impact on the Ukraine's economy. Those poor people are suffering from constant bombarding, death, and destruction, and on top of that they are finding themselves without heat and electricity in many cases, while costs are doubling for many staples. I am not terribly happy with the amount of money that OUR government is sending to Ukraine, but I hadn't given much thought to the impact on Ukraine's government, trying to stay afloat, win a war, and find some semblance of peace and stability.

This will be a very hard winter for most people in Ukraine. A night without power seems like a major problem to most of us. Imagine a winter with the lights out and the heat off.

I can't imagine being without heat or power for an extended period of time, with children, lack of refrigeration, and in some cases no running water. The last extended power outage we had was for only 7 hours. I called the outage hotline and found out how long it was expected to last. I went out and got the heavy-duty extension cord, fired up the generator in the motorhome and we had power in the kitchen only for the fridge, cable box, a lamp, and the coffee maker. For most short term outages we just break out a battery powered LED lantern, a transistor radio, and open the tv station's news app on the Ipad if there are any severe weather warnings in effect. I actually have a headband with an LED light that I originally bought to be used while fishing at night, so I can actually read a book or navigate around the house in the dark.
We have had RV's for years, but never had a generator with any of them until we bought the motorhome. It is a bit comforting to know that if there is a long term power outage we have the option of actually waiting it out in the motorhome with heat, electricity, cooking facilities, tv, and a warm bed if we have to sleep out there.
