Well the first thing that happened is the ice maker in the freezer went to hell. The wire bail and switch that shuts it off when the bin is full went to hell so we have to keep emptying the ice bin a couple times a day to keep it from overflowing into the bottom of the drawer underneath the baskets. Service man is on his way. probably a hundred and a half for that little deal. Last night when I got ready to go to bed I started to raise up my lift chair and I heard a pop, one side dropped about 2 inches and everything went wonky and crooked. The mechanism finally just got sick of raising my fat ass up after10 yrs or so. So today I have to drag the damn thing out to the driveway, put it on my little trailer and take it to the county transfer station to get rid of it, then we are going to go shop for a new one. Looking online I am finding that a new one will run over $1000 plus 30 bucks or so for delivery from Johnson City. Just what the hell I need right in the middle of Christmas shopping for Kathy, my three boys and their wives, 4 grand kids, and 4 great grand kids. Woe is me, haha.

We just had to do that on a relatively new fridge. Luckily, we don't have a lift chair to worry about.
I am jealous of the four great grands. Our oldest granddaughter just turned 22 so I think we have a while to wait.

I guess it pays to be a loyal customer. We have had him here for warranty work on the fridge when we first bought it, and he has worked on the washer and dryer both over the years. He remembered us. He actually fixed it in about 5 minutes. His service calls are normally $100 = parts. He was nearby on another call before he came here so he didn't even charge us.
Now we are off to Johnson City to look at recliners. I said earlier that we would probably pay 30 bucks or so for delivery. Wow! delivery is now $129. I emptied out the back of the car and folded the seats down. The back comes off the recliners so I should be able to put it in the car with the two pieces one on top of the other. If not, I will simply make two trips before I will pay them $129. It is only about 20 miles. It wouldn't cost me but about 5 or 6 bucks for gas at the most. The price of diesel fuel is killing anyone using a truck in their business.

The ice maker in our fridge quit about a year after we bought it, out of warranty of course. I figured it was the valve so I said the hell with it. So we use trays which works out fine & the basket for the ice maker took up too much room anyway. That fridge is over 10 years old, still humming along.
That $129 fee for delivery is crazy.

I wonder if Medicare could pay for that if it is medically necessary. Check that out. They pay for those scooters and electric wheelchairs.

My ice maker started to leak a few months ago. I must have done something cleaning it. I bought two new ones at Walmart for about $3.00 if I remember correctly. Each tray makes 12 cubes!!!!

A few more days you can grab an ice pick and go out side and chip off what you need. LOL 🥶

I would not get approved by medicare and I would not ask my doctor to write a prescription for one. The one that broke we bought when I had shoulder surgery on my right shoulder and couldn't operate the lever on a manual recliner. I had gotten used to the lift chair, but I never liked the fact that if the phone rang and I didn't have it next me it took forever for it to get to a sitting straight up with the footstool retracted.
We caught a sale at a furniture warehouse and bought a Lane recliner that was $1149.00 but the sale price was 35% off that. It is not a lift chair, but it is a powered recliner with a powered adjustable head rest. It is extra wide so our spoiled chihuahua has room to lay between me and the arm of the chair. By the time the "Polish Princess" got done dealing with them she had them delivering it tax included for $850. I am too easy. I usually let her do most of the dickering when I have bought a truck or car also.
Tomorrow I will have to wrestle the old one out to the driveway and put it on my trailer to go to the transfer site. That damned thing is a beast. I cussed and grumbled for about 45 minutes just getting the back of it off. It was bolted to the main part of the chair with 6 fine threaded bolts about an inch and a half long that were located in a barely accessible place. It required turning them about a quarter of a turn at a time with and open end wrench because that was the only thing that would fit in where the bolts were.

We used to have an appliance guy, worked on our stuff for years. When we got a new appliance, he would come and haul our old one for free. He then took it apart and salvaged all the useful parts. If he came for a repair, he could usually offer a choice of new or salvaged part. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago.

There was a little shop here in Bristol when we first moved here that offered salvaged parts when doing a repair. He also sold refurbished appliances that he had put together from machines and appliances he had accrued from curbside or when replacing an appliance and hauling the old one away. My sister and her husband called him to repair a dishwasher several years ago, and they were able to purchase a refurbished unit for a song and he took the old one. I went there just once with my truck to pick up a dryer for my neighbor. The guy had a huge garage shop with appliances in all stages of disassembly or assembly with parts scattered all over. He did a land office business and was a savior to those that could not afford NEW appliances. Sadly he also died and his kids held an auction to clear building so they could sell it.
I would have had the furniture store take the old one when they delivered the new one, but my intention was to buy a new chair and bring it home myself. Usually a standard recliner back can be easily removed by squeezing a clip on each side and simply lifting the back off, leaving you with two easy to handle pieces that would fit in the back of a van or SUV. Now that the old one has been dis-assembled I just want it out of here and for $3 I will just take it to the transfer site and dump it, and I won't have to wrestle the new one into place. They won't deliver the new one until Monday.

I have to push down with my legs. Never again. I too had to disassemble the old one to get it outside for the city to pick up. It toom me an hour.

I didn't need the lift chair, but I decided that I DID like the power option. It may be slow getting upright but I will just keep the phone on the stand next to my chair. I liked power adjustable head rest. It is great for reading or watching tv, but I can also adjust it to be comfortable when I lay back all the way for one of those famous power naps.
