tinyurl.com/ytgqr4The story is short but the pictures are well worth it. His prior view on ending the civil war and the slavery issue are interesting.

My wife and I were out to the Lincoln Library & museum a couple years ago. Very, very interesting.
The man was certainly ahead of his time.

Lincoln's burning desire was to preserve the union with any tool available. "Buying slaves," actually compensating owners for their freedom, would have never worked because the blacks would have sold themselves immediately back into "slavery." Where else would they have gone? Prejudices would have remained and little would have changed, except the Federal government would have just handed over $173 million dollars directly to the troublemakers who had started the war. Sherman's "Young Turks" would have the spent the money to kill more Yankees. (Sherman advocated killing this group of southern aristocrats after the war. It didn't happen, but history proved his suggestion valid. ) In "What Lincoln Believed," (Michael Lind, 2004) the 16th president is examined through his writings and the memories of those who knew him. One of Lind's excellent points is that there are many Lincolns and in fact over the years his political figure has been used to bolster many different political agendas, some in total opposition to each other, although not at the same time. Known by some as the Great Emancipator, he was known to have favored sending blacks back to Africa at one time. To view Lincoln during the war, one needs to see a person valiantly trying to end the conflict and preserve the country. These were the only reasons for any of his actions just prior to his death.

The one thing you never hear or read about is the black man in Africa that originally sold them into slavery. How about the white man that ended slavery or the white man that ended segregation or the white man that allowed them into an all white school. It amazes me that we still have racism in the world. On second thought with people like Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and Farrakhan why would it end.

It's like finding a cure for cancer.
Can you imagine how many people would be put out of work if it ended tomorrow?
