I eat a salad just about every day. When I went to Kroger today they didn't HAVE any lettuce, so I went to the produce place I usually shop at. A head of lettuce was $4.99. John told me that the last time he bought lettuce it was only about 40 bucks a case. Yesterday he had to pay $84 a case. Kroger had it priced at $3.99 but they didn't get any in on last night's truck.
Kathy was happy. She found her canned pumpkin at Dollar Tree for $1.25 a can for a 15oz can. Only time will tell if it is of acceptable quality. Glad I got there before "Pakistani Peggy" got there to buy it up for their C store, lol.

The last couple times I bouht lettuce the head was half the size it used to be & it was $2.50. So they've doubled the price. I'm not buying iceberg lettuce again if it's the same ripoff. I'll switch to leaf lettuce or whatever because I won't buy the bagged stuff. It's garbage imho.

I won't buy bagged salad mix either. We eat a lot of salad. I eat a salad just about every day. We are always well stocked with salad ingredients. Iceberg lettuce, Romaine, baby spinach, red onion, English cucumber, various olives at times, and other little goodies like pepperjack cheese, cherry or grape tomatoes, cut up fried chicken tenders or grilled chicken, pepperoncini, salami, and anything else that strikes my fancy. I bought a little egg cooker that makes boiled eggs. Just a plastic dome with a water reservoir and a rack for the eggs. We occasionally will have a Cobb salad or antipasto as our entree for supper. The only things I will NOT eat in a salad are avocado or kale. Every once in awhile Food City has little heads of Boston lettuce that is quite tender and tasty. I eat healthy salads and lots of veggies but blow it when it comes to animal protein, eggs, and dairy. I am a carnivore at heart.
I hate buying lettuce this time of year. Small heads about the size of a softball, soft and loose. No firm and hard heads the size of your head. It is the time of year for leaning more toward Romaine and other greens.
I don't know where we are headed with grocery prices, but I don't think there is any relief in sight for produce until spring when we can go back to buying local produce at the farmer's market or our favorite produce stand.

We've had the same problem getting lettuce in, but haven't gone over $2.00 a head so far.
What is it with frozen carrots? We haven't had frozen carrots except for once in months. plenty of fresh and bagged carrots, shredded and sliced, but not frozen.

I haven't been able to find frozen leaf spinach in quite a while. Chopped yes, which I hate. Don't know why.

I bought Hellman's mayo yesterday at Wally, $5.48 for a 27oz jar. Another ripoff as it used to be 30 oz. These companies are no doubt robbing us blind.
