I opened the Sunday paper this morning at 7am. Dollar General was advertising canned pumpkin on sale, 3 cans for 3 dollars. I got dressed and was waiting when the store opened. There was one other lady there and when they opened the doors, being the gentleman I am, I held the door for her and let her go in first.
There was no limit on the pumpkin, and as I walked down the aisle just in time to see her take the entire case and a half and place it in her cart. I asked her if I could get just 3 cans. The ignorant and greedy Pakastani cow said "Nope, if ya snooze ya lose." I couldn't believe she said that and wouldn't give up 3 cans out of 18 cans or so that she had in her cart. I was seething mad. When we got outside the store and I was getting in my car she had the nerve to tell me that she would sell me three cans for $2.50 a can, and that was what she was going to resell it for in their convenience store. Being the vindictive SOB that I am, I hatched a plan to make her pay. Their store is just down the road. I buy gas there occasionally. Once when I filled a gallon gas can for the mower he told me that they have to pay $2 for each time someone uses a debit card. The car needed gas so I went there and filled up. I put the card in, pumped 1 gallon of gas and hung the hose back up. I repeated that 8 times until the car was full. The guy finally came out and asked me what the hell I was doing. I told him to enjoy his pumpkin pie on thanksgiving and that had his wife let me buy 3 cans of pumpkin he would not be paying $16 in service fees. I can't wait until thanksgiving so I can stop in and ask him if he enjoyed his pie.

I buy canned pumpkin but use it either in smoothie's or just adding a tablespoon to either Greek yogurt or ricotta. Tasty. I sprinkle a little cinnamon on top or use pumpkin pie spice when I have it.

I am going to call the bank this morning and inquire about the guy's claim that he is charged $2 when a debit card is used. I was thinking last night that with the supposed minimal profit that a vendor actually gets from a gasoline sale after taxes etc. it is doubtful that they would be charged that much. It simply doesn't make sense to me that a bank would charge a vendor a higher rate for accepting a debit card than the interest rate that they charge a card holder for a credit card bill if not paid in full when billed. It seems that it would be illegal and would possibly be considered usury. I don't think anyone would be allowed to charge a $2 service fee on a $1 purchase. If they charge $2 it wouldn't make sense for a merchant to accept debit cards at all, have a limit on how much a person would have to spend in order to use a debit card.
Oh well, it was fun at the time. It is not the first time that I responded to a sale price at DG and found the shelf empty. They should either stock a reasonable quantity of the sale item or at least put a limit on how much a person could purchase, just as supermarkets do.

I guess the credit card company that sponsors the debit card sometimes charges a service charge. I guess that is sort of like when a person uses an ATM that is not part of their own banks ATM network. I didn't completely understand the guy that I talked to. My debit card is a visa. I know I took money from an ATM at Turning Stone once when we were up there. The casino charged me 3 bucks and when I got my statement my bank had also charged me a service charge of some sort.

In my younger days I would have went back to her store & let the air out of her tires. If I was in a hurry maybe only one.

It would probably give her immense satisfaction to see me spend Thanksgiving in Sullivan County jail. Kathy actually found pumpkin for $1.25 at Dollar Tree yesterday. Go figure. Everyone else is selling it for exorbitant prices and facing shortages and Dollar Tree is selling it for a buck and a quarter for a standard size 15 oz can. She didn't get greedy. She only bought 3 cans to supplement what she already had in the pantry for her Christmas time pumpkin bread gifts that she gives to all our friends and neighbors.

We're always running out of canned pumpkin, year round. Something about it being used for special dog food mixes, people come in and buy it buy the case.

We bought canned pumpkin at Price Chopper for $2.79, their brand which is enough for two pies but without the spices so you have to add your own.

Kathy always uses the plain pumpkin puree in a can and adds her own spices. It has been running between $2.50 and $3 for the 15 oz can at Krogers and Food City and the large can is over $5.

Kathy made two pumpkin pies and a Dutch apple pie with the crumb topping today. She said the Dollar Tree pumpkin is just as good as Libby's. Thank goodness we have the motor home plugged into power and can use the refrigerator to hold the overflow until Thursday. The 15lb turkey is taking up a good piece of the available space in the house refrigerator. The pies are in the motorhome and tomorrow the pistachio cake with whipped cream frosting and the coleslaw will go out there. She is cooking just as much for the two of us as she usually does when we have company for Thanksgiving. Thank goodness I just bought bags for the vacuum sealer. lol

pistachio cake with whipped cream frosting that sounds delicious. I love pistachio ice cream the smooth one that is light green in color but I can never find it anywhere. I remember it as a kid years ago and I had it when I was in Missouri but everyone here has the variety with nuts.I cannot eat any type of nut because of my hiatal hernia in esophagus!!!!! I do not want to go through that pain associated with that.
