Hell, don't wait for a discount at the OD. I was working there when Kathy's dad died. I was living with Kathy and he was like my own father. They told me that because we were not married, I could not get a discount. If they don't discount an obit for an employee unless you show a marriage license, and pictures of you with the deceased, the cheap bastards aren't going to discount a large and profitable piece like what the Ross family published.
Rest assured though. If you are an employee when you croak, they will put your obit in the paper for free. At least they used to. You may have to have a note from your doctor now, stating that you are dead, and not coming to work anymore!
That is why I quit. I could not get more money for my underpaid help, and they kept adding extra work. The gas prices were going up and and the contractors and bundle delivery drivers were still getting next to nothing for pay. They finally came across with an insulting fuel supplement for the contractors that used their own trucks, but it was an insult.
I had men working in all kinds of weather, working in the middle of the night, busting their asses and getting paid $6.35 per hour. The OD is a cheap ass sweatshop, and they grip every penny until lincolns ears pop!
Donna and the company comptroller used to drive company cars and burn company gas. The mechanic that maintained my transportation department vans spent half his workday running around with those two vehicles, getting them washed and filling donna's gas tank at the station in N Utica. Yet they bitched about the cost of maintaining the vans, and paying drivers.
argggh!!! how do you stand it??
