Thank you to all our veterans and members of our military, past and present. Veterans Day is always a proud day and a day of celebration, but also a solemn occasion as I am always reminded of my high school friend who lost his life in Vietnam after proudly enlisting in the US Marines right after graduation.
Prayers for safety for those that still serve and for the families of those lost in the service to our country.
For our forum members who served, thank you for your service and have a happy Veteran's Day.

I was surprised how many eateries were offering free or reduced prices to veteran's or those currently serving. A Marine was coming out of one place I was out and I thanked him for his service. He turned quickly to shake my hand and nearly crushed every bone in my hand. Yeaks. Have they done this in the past. To me it seems like more and more is being done for veterans in one way or the other and it is about time. When I was serving as a Deacon in a large parish in Syracuse I knew a Marine who was a Captain. Great guy but quietly reserved. He invited my for supper several time at his house . He was married to a very cute girl who was a registered nurse he didn't have and kids yet. That parish also had a young guy who worked with the Secret Service. He was single and also at supper with use. Marine Mike had a nice inground pool he put in in his backyard and I was invited to use it many times. Great people.

I don't normally chase the free offers on Veteran's Day but today I had errands to run so I took advantage of the free breakfast at Perkins and stopped by Great Clips for a card good for a free haircut. When I got my hair cut last week the girl who always cuts it told me that they were giving out cards good for a free haircut today. A haircut is $13 so that was a great offer.
There are always a lot of restaurants offering free meals or discounts to Vets on Veteran's Day. The lines are always long and I just never bothered to stand for an hour to get a free meal. A couple years ago I had to be in Johnson City for an appointment at the VA so I stopped and picked up gift certificate they were giving to veterans for a free steak dinner but never used it and it expired in the back compartment of my wallet.
Glad I got the errands done early. It rained all day long and about 5 o'clock it rained so hard we could not see across the road. Thank goodness that weather will move out tomorrow morning.
