So my apt will be renovated therefore I need to pack every single thing in my apt. This has become a huge challenge cause Im packing I am realizing I have collected more stuff than I realized. (I was planning on downsizing before the announcement ). I am overwhelmed with What is still left to do. Have no help and not young anymore to be able to handle this. Getting rid of stuff at the last minute is no easy task. I have many collectibles and pricey pieces that aren't easy to just discard at moments notice. Anyone go through this? Any tips. The apt complex said they will have professional movers come in if we need help packing but my issue is with the present. Supposedly 1st of Nov is the time it will take place but exact date was not given. HELP 😱

They certainty are not giving you much time to pack up. I think I would have the professional movers pack everything right now. You could have some of the boxes labeled "collectables" a put those items in them. After you get back into your apartment when you unpack you could decide then how you want to handle the boxes labeled "collectables". Since time is so short trying to have an apartment sale for those items will be confusing. Best of luck....

Right now just writing the box # and then a list im keeping of the Box # and the contents in the box. Keeping items related to each other. |

Gather the collectibles in one place and have the professional packers pack them separate from the rest of the goods. You are most likely going to have to use a professional mover so let them do the packing and moving so you will be insured if anything is damaged. If you pack them and THEY move them the cartons will be labeled PBO for "packed by owner" and they will not be responsible for damages to those cartons.

When I was teaching at Donovan and part time at MVCC I hired a professional mover to pack up everything. I was living with my Mom and when I bought my house in Westmorland Mom was coming with me and this made the process much easier. That move back in 1992 cost me a little over $1,000. But it was well worth it.

Still packing folks. First complex told us not to worry we wont be leaving the premisses . Now they are saying we most likely will be moved to a hotel then moved back. All our stuff going into storage. I am not happy if this is true. The 16th floor is empty as of last week. So if they are here. Then solution is wait till they come back and put us into the temp apts if they are on the premisses.
If they knew how many free apts were available or not before the start, why didnt they say so. My life is going to be up in turmoil for probably a half year of my life . Im not a spring chicken so its taking what time I have left on this planet. Then after this move the time to unpack and try to put my life back in order. Not a happy camper.. Thank God I bought rental insurance just before all this started. So far in a span of a few weeks we had to fire alarms due to fires here. In all my time here its never been like this . What kind of people are living here. Tks for listening to my grumbling.

Gee Chris, I hope that they get this straightened out and it goes smoothly for y'all. Sounds like they don't have a real clue as to what's going on either.  |

You are in my prayers Chris. It sounds like your building is rapidly declining into a hell hole like PB's building on Bleecker St did. Hang in there and stay strong. Landlords are only interested in profits, not in the wellbeing of their tenants. It is shameful.

I feel sorry for you chris and will keep you in prayer as this continues asking the Lord to give you the strength and grace you need on a daily basis to get through this. If I didn't move from my last place I think I would be dead and I did not want to go through the same packing and not knowing where they were going to send us. They were supposed to remodel 4 years ago and still nothing. People there have no idea what they are doing.
When the Macovian Apartment's downtown remodeled two years ago they started the work on 6th floor. Everyone had to pack up and take with them what they needed to the temporary residence at a local hotel. All other non essentials were placed in storage. When work finished on 6th floor people moved back and everyone on 5th floor moved etc. I knew a few women from taking the bus who were in there late 80's and they said the whole process was hell. One of them just moved here since her knew neighbor was a disabled person who was a prostitute and the noise coming into her apartment at night long was unbearable. Now just like where I was living drug addicts were moving in. How they are placed who knows and why they are allowed to stay who knows.

I do not think so. There is one guy in mid 60's who is a serious alcoholic. He was caught drinking beer on the Bus and was suspended for that for three months. He just recently did it again and once again suspended for three months. He got into a very bad arguments with a Bus drive on a Bus I was with. He has no been suspended from using the Bus for 6 months. |

Well today was the move. My stuff is in storage and and Im being put up at the Hampton Inn which is a few blocks from my apt. So close to everything I need and familiar with. Im in a hotel cause the apt I was supposed to stay in during renovation wasnt ready. I think I wiil opt to stay here the full time. This way stuff in storage only need to be moved once. All I can deal with at the moment. Maybe Ill be back to my old apt before the new year or right after Christmas. God willing. Not sure which is worse. Covid or this move.
