The alert on TV basically said, " if you are driving to North Utica, go somewhere else." For 2 hours all eastbound Thruway traffic was diverted into north Utica and for hours after that eastbound was one lane.

I was wondering how big of a mess it would make in N. Utica. I am glad we aren't living on Herkimer Rd anymore. Mondays are a heavy truck traffic day and I am sure it was a real goat rope.

I avoid the Thwy whenever I can. A couple weeks ago we went to Saratoga Race Track & took a nice scenic ride along rte 29. Took a couple hours. On the way back we did take the Thwy & it cost me $11.00 in tolls. I got the bill in the mail a few days ago.

We always used the Thruway when we were up there and camping at Turning Stone RV park. We were on it almost every day, shuttling from Verona to Mohawk to see her aunt, and to Utica sometimes twice a day from Verona. Now instead of getting on the thruway in Syracuse we take route 5 and use rt 5 and 5S to do most of our running back and forth. We bought a $25 EZ pass at a convenience store in Binghamton once. We were in NY for 9 days and when we got home we still got a bill for $45 more dollars. THAT is a lot of tolls for just running short runs between Verona and Herkimer.

When we made our trip to Minnesota earlier this year, we made a side trip to Lansing MI to visit with son Joe & family. With COVID restrictions we had not seen them in nearly 2 years. On the next leg of our trip, we told Google that it was OK to route us on toll roads since I-90 and a couple other interstates are tolled. Google then wanted us to take the ferry across Lake Michigan. That route is shorter in both miles and time but a car and 2 passengers across the lake costs on the order of $300. We were about 1/2 hour into the trip before we realized what it was doing. We had to do that part of the trip the old-fashioned way, using our brains rather than our phones.

I was on the Bus headed to N Utica at the time that traffic from thruway was being diverted to N Utica. What a total mess and to top it off something went wrong with the light signals in the area of the two gas stations and Herkimer Road. My Bus driver was so upset. I kind of enjoyed the bedlam.

I had a similar experience years ago when Garmin first became popular. I got as far as Buffalo and it wanted to route me over into Canada and across the top of the lake to Detroit. Mapquest once showed me that "shortest route" going West had you jumping on and off the Thruway between Utica and Buffalo numerous times, taking sections of Rt31 and Rt20 at times. I haven't let go of my trucker's atlas. It is tucked under the floor in the back of the car in the compartment with the spare tire. Just in case the world comes to a stop when the internet and satellite communications ever both go down at the same time. LOL

You need to keep up with the yearly updates.

We have Onstar Navigation in the new car with turn by turn voice prompts. It works a lot better than the U-connect system that was in the Ram truck, and I think it updates itself as the updates become available to Onstar customers. That is what a chevy dealer told me anyway. I guess I will see. Does anyone else drive a GM product with Onstar installed?

That area is always a hassle to drive thru from N. Genny to Leland Ave. Twice in the past couple months I've seen drivers driving north on Genesee St coming out of Fastrac & turning left on Genny from Herkimer Rd. And some day maybe, just maybe they will synchronize the numerous traffic lights between Leland Ave & N.Genesee. They've had 20 some years to do it.

What's on the other corner now where the Citgo full service gas station was? That closed up didn't it?

Citgo full service gas station is still there. Now I am confused I will have to pay attention going through there. Fastrac is on other side to Citgo.

Fast Trac or Nice and Easy on the SE corner and Citgo and the carwash on the SW corner. I thought that I had read a while back that Citgo had closed. Did they maybe just do away with the full service and go to self serve?
I am always confused by the button on gas pumps that say if you need assistance pumping your gas just push the button to talk to the cashier. Heck, you have to get out of the car to push the button, so I guess if you are crippled you just have to sit there in your car until someone notices and comes out, or you die of old age, whichever comes first. Just another of those things that makes me shake my head in disbelief, sort of like the braille dots on a drive-up ATM's keypad.

My bad. I meant to say going south on Genesee between the Fastrac & Clifford fuel. That stretch of N.Genny is one way. The full sevice Clifford's is no more. Now it's a Cliff's Local Market. Gas is dropping here. I paid $4.13 for reg. unleaded at BJ's this morning.
