I just came from the hospital. My cardiologist sent me to the walk in lab for a blood draw. The entrance to the lab is about 50 feet from the walk in entrance to the ER. They have little golf carts that shuttle people from the parking lots to the doors. A guy pulled up in one of them, stepped out and started staggering toward the ER door. He took about 3 steps and face planted on the sidewalk. I ran over there and he was unconscious but breathing and had a pulse. He had smashed his forehead on the sidewalk and had a deep gash over one eye. A lady walking by went into the ER and shortly there was a PA announcement for an emergency medical response team to repond to the West Entrance. WOW! I never seen so many medical personnel come out of the woodwork. In a matter of a couple of minutes they had a heart monitor on him and an IV in his arm. He was still unconscious when they put him on a gurney but he was certainly getting the best medical intervention I had seen in a long time. In a matter of only a couple of minutes there was two doctors, several nurses and 2 or 3 hospital security people there to take care of him. I didn't stick around. I went back in the hospital and washed the blood off my hands where I had been holding pressure in his head with my clean handkerchief. I hope he is okay and I also hope that he didn't have anything that soap and hand sanitizer couldn't kill. Thankfully I hadn't taken my mask off yet.

I would be interested in knowing what was wrong with him. He drove up in the golf cart, got out, took about 3 steps and lost consciousness. I have ridden with the guy before. They have some rather remote parking spots that are quite a distance from the building and always have two or three of the golf carts patrolling the lots to help people to the door. I will have to check on him the next time I go up there. My primary care provider is in one of the wings of the hospital.
If not for Covid I would be tempted to man one of the carts. They are driven by volunteers. I am just a bit fearful of being in contact with strangers all day long. Especially sick ones.
