or dipping into Sunday sauce. Oh boy......................! I used to do that when my dear Mom was alive and made that special Sunday sauce....... We occasionally buy hot, fresh baked Italian bread from Food City. Both Food City and Krogers put out fresh hot bread every day at 4 pm. Sadly it doesn't compare to some of the local breads available in family owned bake shops there in CNY. Our favorite was always Ferlo's Bakery in Rome, and no one can compare with the bread that I used to buy years ago when I lived next door to the Salumeria on James St.

I almost wept when Salumeria's closed their doors. That was a great place and the foods were out of this world.

Pepperidge Farms make a decent garlic bread that is frozen & takes about 10 minutes in the oven to bake. But of course they jacked the price & made the loaf smaller so we don't buy it anymore.
Napoli's Bakery makes a french loaf that imho is the best in the city.

I almost wept when Salumeria's closed their doors. That was a great place and the foods were out of this world. The bread he made was identical to what my grandmother made. Also his meatballs. I think if I remember correctly he was Calabaza. In other words his roots were from Calabria Italia where my Mom's side of family is from and in which some relatives still live. I also miss Salatan's Market on James Street. His chicken tasted like chicken today all I taste is whatever I put on the chicken. Chicken has no distinct taste. A guy who lives here buys his chicken at the Farmers Market at Union Stations and says that has the taste of what we remember chicken tasting like of many years ago.

Chinese cooks know what they're doing. Most all of the chicken they cook and serve (and many other meats) is marinated for a while before cooking. This gives the meat a particular flavor depending on what's in the marinade. This is fine for those of us who actually cook from scratch, but people who buy a ready-cooked chicken from the supermarket are at their mercy as to what's in it. But I agree... plain chicken doesn't have much of any flavor. Like many of us, it needs help!

Makes the sliced chicken juicy and moist.
