Mr. Joseph John Hatzinger, 85, of Floyd, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the Presbyterian Home, with his loving family by his side.
Joseph (Joe, Gaga) was born in Rome, NY, on January, 2, 1937, to the late Joseph and Rachel (Keshler) Hatzinger, and was a graduate of Saint Aloysius Academy, class of 1955.
On August 3, 1963, Joseph was united in marriage with Marlene J. Montgomery at Saint Patrick’s Church in Utica, NY, a loving union of over 58 years. Joseph owned and operated Knauer Printing up until 2004. He was also employed as a dealer at Turning Stone Resort & Casino from 1993 - 1996, but Joseph’s real passion was entertaining others through his love of magic and music. Joseph was a longtime member and past President of Magic Ring 101, receiving the Order of Merlin Excalibur for 50 years with The International Brotherhood of Magicians in 2008. He was a self-taught pianist from the early age of 17, a crowd favorite performing solo at many well-known restaurants and venues; and a member of Tony Madonia and the Madmen, Continental Trio, Jumping Joe Hatzinger and the Wild Men, Changing Times and The No Name Band.
Joseph was known all over the city of Rome for his amazing personality and great sense of humor. Everywhere he went he was sure to run into someone he knew. Joe enjoyed vacationing in Vegas with family and friends. He loved movie hopping, being the family comedian rather it was appropriate or not, horse racing, gambling, playing cards, Sunday drives, going out to dinner, and taking his youngest grandkids to the airport to watch the planes.
Mr. Hatzinger is survived by his loving wife, Marlene; a son, Keith (Kim) Hatzinger of New Hartford, NY; two daughters, Michelle (Christopher) Crumb of Barneveld, NY, Colleen (Joshua) Dittl of Stittville, NY; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Patric) Mosomillo, Michael Hatzinger, Malia Crumb, Katarina Hatzinger, Jackson, Cameron and Brielle Dittl; as well as his brother, Paul (Bonnie) Hatzinger of Barneveld, NY, and sister Sally (Mike) Tanner of Eaton, NY.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call on Thursday, March 17, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Prince-Boyd & Hyatt, 210 W.Court Street, Rome, NY.
Mr. Hatzinger’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Presbyterian Home for their compassion and care they provided to Joe and family over the past 3 years. A very special thank you to Karen Brown who cared for her “Joe baby” and his family over the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society in Joe’s honor.
