I'm not sure how many have been following the Olympics. But Michael Phelps surpassed Mark Spitz's 36-year old record of 7 gold medals in one Olympics. Phelps won his 8th gold medal in the Men's 400 Medley Relay.
I actually swam in the same pool during the same meet, though not the same time, as him. It was in the Eastern Zone Championship meet. He was 12 and I was 15 so we were in different age groups. I wish I could say my times were faster than his... But God never granted me such a wish. We knew then that he would be an Olympian some day. Quite the understatement, eh? lol!

Yeah, I saw and listened to Mark Spitz on Fox & Friends this morning. He visually surprised me. I hadn't been keeping up with him since the 70s and seeing all that white/silver hair was scary. He was very gracious though to Michael Phelps and that is just another tribute to the character of Spitz.
Yeah, Swimmy... that time you shared must have left you with good memories to share. It probably ranks up there with my own memories of the several comic book legends that created imaginary heroes. Although, to be sure, Phelps and Spitz (in his day) are superb American heroes and role models.

It was a lot of fun to see someone with such talent in person. You just knew watching him swim then that he was going to be a big name some day. Just never realized how big of a name.
I enjoyed watching his swims. He earned it!

Swimmy I was at the edge of my seat the whole time watching him swim during the olympics. I don't think that anything can top that besides the speed walking that they have..... hahahaha.....

The speedwalking is something I had never watched until last night. I was peeing my pants laughing. Talk about shaking your booty. I hope they all took a screwdriver and tightened their belly buttons down tight, so their butt cheeks won't fall off. I was cracking up watching the girls stepping along, with their hips going from side to side. I imagine that the small of their back must be even more sore than their legs when they complete the race. I would think that the calves of their legs would really tighten up when they stop.
All I could think of was racing to the school bus at the end of the day, when the teachers would stand in the hall shouting "no running people", and we would all step along like speedwalkers to get our favorite seat on the bus.

My husband well he can't stop watching the womens volleyball. hmmm I wonder why. Because of the phenomenal volleyball playing? And Olympic history being made?! No team having ever won back-to-back gold medals?

Yes Swimmy, that too!! LOL! The beach volley ball amazes me, with the ability of two people to cover the whole court as well as they do. ( the bathing suits aren't bad either)
We used to play volleyball at the base on our lunch hours and after supper when I was a firefighter. There was a court set up in the hanger in building 100, and we played just about every night in winter.

Because of the phenomenal volleyball playing? And Olympic history being made?! No team having ever won back-to-back gold medals? Yeah I'm sure that is what it is! He is away for work this week so I called to tell him the other night that Volleyball was on and that I'm sure that he would get a kick out of it because it was raining and the girls were wearing white. He claims that he never watched it, but I know better!!!! hahahaha........

He only watched for a little while, and with one eye! Then he felt guilty, and spent the rest of the night looking at your picture in his wallet, and thinking of home.

I confess that I too am a huge fan of women's beach volleyball.
And no, it's not about the bikini swimsuits. I'm much more interested in what's underneath.

::blush::
I suspect Phelp's mom (or professional handlers) are keeping him under wraps while they consider his future options.
