Google "invade Canada." Let me know if you find the historical stuff I've been looking for regarding the push in America's early years to do so. I seem to remember Washington or Jefferson thinking of it, and worrying that if we didn't we wouldn't hold the continent.

Wow! Almost unbelievable. Somewhere in Washington, there are a few guys who worry about such things. There are lots of "few guys (and girls)" who worry about a lot of possibilities most of us never think about. When Party Quebecois fever was rampant a number of years ago, there were those who worried that an independent Quebec might be purchased by proponents selling out to our (USA) adversaries overseas, thereby putting a foreign footprint on North America. (Like some of the Irish wanted to do with Hitler re England in WW2.)
