wibx950.com/utica-woman-grateful-carbon-monoxide-detector-firefighters-saved-her-life/Every home or building with natural gas or propane service and gas appliances such as gas logs, gas cook stove, gas hot water heater, or furnace should have at least one or more per floor, and should definitely have one in the bedroom to awaken you if carbon monoxide becomes present due to some malfunctioning gas burning device. It is important to know that a carbon monoxide detector does NOT detect unburned gas and carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air. If you burn gas you probably should have a gas detector too because gas is heavier than air and will accumulate near the floor first. Our travel trailers and our motor home all have been equipped with a gas detector to detect any propane leaks. The detectors are located close to the floor because propane is heavier than air. Just as an added safety measure I have always installed carbon monoxide detectors or combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in our RV's even though with the exception of the cook stove all the gas burning devices are vented to the outside. I don't know of anyone that has said that they had encountered a place with too many detectors. Better safe than sorry.
