www.uticaod.com/story/news/2022/01/27/popeyes-open-new-hartford-location-commercial-drive/9238292002/I think Utica is going to be very pleased with the addition of Popeye's to the list of local fast food options. Popeye's is our "go-to" fried chicken take-out restaurant. It is less greasy than Kentucky Fried, and the coatings are much more flavorful, whether you get the regular or the spicy. I don't know about your area, but here the KFC chicken seems to have become more and more grease soaked in recent times. Could be a local problem but it sent us to Bojangles and Popeye's for fried chicken on the infrequent occasions that we buy take-out chicken. If you like a little bit of spice Popeye's offers a taste of Cajun spice that is not overwhelmingly hot but adds a pleasant level of heat to the mix. The dirty rice and macaroni and cheese is also delicious. No, I am not a paid representative of Popeye's. Just a fried chicken lover that likes a little Cajun kick and Cajun sides. I quickly sickened of KFC's instant mashed potatoes with salty gravy and over cooked green beans.

We ordered from the one on Genesed St a few years back but the food was lousy. But I'll give the new one a shot. I agree on KFC. We would order from there once in a while but no more for the resson you stated.
I use to make fried chicken using a cast iron fry pan that was awesome. No more because we can't use cast iron on our flat top electric stove. Cast iron is the way to go for fried chicken imho.
I wonder how it is in an air fryer?

They make a fried chicken breading mix for the air fryer. We tried it once. It was quite good. We just haven't bought it again as of yet. It was a coating that stuck to the chicken and didn't blow off in the air fryer. We just misted the chicken with olive oil first. We did thighs and they came out great. The Popeye's that was on Oneida Square sucked. It was a management and employee problem. They had help that was making too much chicken at a time and after it sat around, they double fried it just to heat it up. My son said the same thing you did. That it was lousy. Our Popeye's and those in Johnson City and Kingsport are all very good. I LOVE their cajun spiced chicken and their tenders are very good too. It is worth giving them a second chance. Chances are that the new one is going to be operated by a different franchisee.

They're opening a Chick - Fil- A I think at the Westmoreland thruway interchange also. The nearest one is in Cicero but I don't like fried chicken THAT much. Lol

I am not a fried chicken eater. I think it is because to much chewing involved. Makes my jaw hurt! I generally bake chicken breasts or thighs with some type of seasoning that I change around.

Not only are their sandwiches great, they also have great salads and sides such as mac and cheese and fruit cups. I don't like the waffle cut fries though. Very popular here. They have a drive-thru that includes two lanes manned by live order takers and the lines are always all the way around the building. I don't think the live order takers under one of those pop up shelter awnings would cut it in NY in the winter though.lol
