Another restaurant having to alter the way they do business due to staffing shortages.
We made our usual trip to Perkin's after bowling last night and encountered a staffing issue there also. The dining room was open, but there was one server and the hostess covering the entire dining area where there are usually 3 servers. Perkin's is normally open all night, but they started closing a 10pm due to the lack of help. We were taken care of and the food was good as always but the service took a lot longer. Perkin's is directly off the interstate exit, and across the street from a Quality Inn hotel so they are always busy. The little gal that waited on us had been there since 7am. She was working on her 14th hour. Our entire party double up on the tips because the poor gal was about dead on her feet and another group close to our table was being rude and abusive because it was taking so long to get their food. We could tell that she was exhausted and on the verge of tears. The asshats that were making such a fuss and doing all the bitching left ZERO tip and there was six of them. We all decided among us to leave her 50% for a tip. Between the four couples she ended up with over $30. She is a sweetheart and has been waiting on our group every Thursday night for several years.
It is a shame when a great place like Symeon's, where dining in has always been a special treat, has been forced to serve their great food in take-out containers and paper bags. I always loved their fish fry and their Greek salad, and Kathy love the Baklava.
We absolutely hated it when our area restaurants were all strictly curbside pick-up. We enjoy sitting down for a nice steak dinner out with our friends. Not the same when you have to bring everything home and warm it up. The worst experience that I remember was pasta and bread sticks from Olive Garden. The Shrimp alfredo was like glue and ice cold by the time we got it home.
