Chicago Public Schools would cancel Wednesday classes if teachers union votes today to refuse in-person work
Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez said classes would be canceled Wednesday — but school buildings would be open — if Chicago Teachers Union members decide Tuesday to refuse to work in person amid the city surge in COVID-19 cases.
CTU’s House of Delegates, its 600-member governing body, is expected to vote Tuesday on a resolution for members to teach remotely from Wednesday until Jan. 18, unless an agreement with CPS is reached or the rate of Chicago COVID-19 cases decreases. If the House of Delegates approves the measure, electronic ballots would open up later Tuesday to the union’s 25,000 rank-and-file members. Results of the vote may not be available until late Tuesday evening.
Martinez said Tuesday he asked the union to delay its vote, and he expressed optimism that CPS and CTU could reach an agreement. He said CPS submitted a proposal to CTU that includes a metric that would spur an individual school to transition to remote learning and would allow principals to restore the daily health questionnaires and temperature checks in place the last school year — some measures CTU has demanded.
If an agreement is not reached and CTU members approve the remote learning action, Martinez said there would be no CPS instruction Wednesday.

I'd vote in favor of remote learning for remainder of year if necessary
