US COVID death toll tops 800,000 as winter surge intensifies On Tuesday, the United States reached yet another staggering milestone, with 800,000 Americans now confirmed lost to the coronavirus, according to newly updated data from Johns Hopkins University. "This will be a defining tragedy of our generation," David Dowdy, an infectious disease epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, told ABC News. "We've gotten to the point where our eyes glaze over on these numbers. But by now, almost every one of us knows someone who has died of COVID-19." The sobering marker comes less than two years into the pandemic, and despite the introduction of the first coronavirus vaccines, nearly one year ago. "As we mark the tragic milestone of 800,000 American deaths due to COVID-19, we remember each person and the lives they lived, and we pray for the loved ones left behind. I know what it’s like to stare at an empty chair around the kitchen table, especially during the holiday season, and my heart aches for every family enduring this pain," President Joe Biden said in a statement Tuesday evening. "To heal, we must remember. We must also act. That’s exactly what we have done over the past 11 months." www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/a-defining-tragedy-us-covid-death-toll-tops-800000-as-winter-surge-intensifies/ar-AAROywl?li=BBnb7KzWell we cannot blame the politicians or the Doctors but we can BLAME all the unvaccinated people out there who only care for themselves. You would think that would be a reason to get vaccinated! NOPE Unvaccinated people must be quarantined even if that means preventlng them in all businesses. Probably cause a riot but then maybe more of them will be killed thus helping out

I read last week that the USA will soon have 1 Million deaths Probably. So let's have another round of applause for Dr's Bongino, Hannity, Carlson, Ingraham, Rogan, etc of Fox Newds who have convinced millions of people that Covid is no big deal. And lets not leave out Ron Johnson, Gym Jordan, MTG, Desantis, Noem & a slew of Republican hacks who are doing the same thing as their Fox News buddies. A few hundred thousand more people gone is nothing to them as long as they're not one of them.

Well, hopefully it will be a bit better this winter than last, but that is questionable. We have not "locked ourselves down" but we are limiting our activity and minimizing contact with crowds. We were going to meet another couple for dinner at Longhorn Steak house the other night and when we saw how many people were crowded into the place we downgraded to a pizza to go and a pot of coffee at their house. I don't go anywhere without a mask and we are very vigilant about keeping our distance from others whenever possible.
I just pray that things don't come to a total lockdown again. We are headed for two years of dealing with the virus and it is getting pretty discouraging and depressing being confined or restricted in movement. I am hunting in earnest for a wood stove for my shop. I had one on the line but the guy sold it out from under me over the weekend. I was supposed to pick it up today or tomorrow and he sold it to a relative instead. I am an active person and not having anything productive to do all winter would drive me completely crazy. (It would be a short drive anyway, haha.)

I hope that people do not put there health at risk due to what a politician or TV personality on TV News talk shows. I hate those things and never listen.

My sister invited me to her house for Thanksgiving but I refused. I am to fearful of this virus even being vaccinated and boosted. I think she is mad at me now. I also refused Christmas invite for same reason. I can easily just say in this depressing apartment and watch TV. Reminds me I hve to get some beer and some red wine.

We are being careful. I just hate to think about being totally isolated and confined to the house as we were when the pandemic first struck. I was going to the grocery store at 7 am for the hour of restricted shopping specifically designed for seniors to be able to shop in relative safety before the store opened to the general public and when I got home, we stayed here with little socialization. My sister and her husband, and a couple of friends and neighbors would stop by and we would sit socially distanced outdoors in the carport with masks on.

News at Noon just mentions that for the past three days New York State has registered over 23,000 new infections per day.

Our garage is unheated so I can't work out there so it may be time to hole out the basement & upgrade the small setup I have down there. Gonna be a long winter. I like to read so it looks like I'll be hitting the library as I'm tired of paying Amazon for Kindle downloads. I don't know what's up with the Utica library. Half the time they're not open, so I'll have to use Dunham in Whitesboro.

I used to love to go to the Utica library when I was a teen. On snowy days I would take the bus downtown from Keyes Rd and would find a good book and sit for hours way up in the upper stacks where there wasn't much traffic and it was reasonably quiet.

I think the crowd may be going to Barnes & Noble. Book Store in New Hartford, NY Consumer Square, I have several books I bought during the summer I can read.

I found another stove in Whitesburg Tn, about 70 miles from here. I am renting one of the little 4x7 Uhaul open trailer and going down to pick it up in the morning. I have a guy coming Wed morning at 8:30 am to give me an estimate to install it. I hope that by the first of the month I will have it up and working. The cost of the stove, the cost of installation, as well as a load of well seasoned hard wood firewood, and my wallet will be crying uncle, haha.
