I am sure that there will be a major uproar and outcry, but I am sure that NOBODY wants to go back to all the restrictions placed on their lives, or the shutdowns.
I am angered by the number of people that KNOW how dangerous the virus is, and yet make it all about "personal freedom" in the face of the risk of not only contracting the virus, but equally important, passing it to someone among those most vulnerable and at risk of death or serious illness.
Nobody values their freedoms more than I do, but where should the line be drawn, between personal freedom to choose and common sense public safety?
Kathy and I have recently noticed that hardly anyone is wearing a mask anymore around here. It becomes more and more evident that it is only those who are elderly and among the vulnerable are wearing masks when shopping or in restaurants. If anyone doubts how far airborne droplets containing the virus can travel check out the cloud emitted with someone who vapes exhales. It makes it quite evident that the 6 foot recommended distancing make sense. Kathy and I are probably among those with a high degree of immunity and still wear the mask and attempt to maintain the distance. We stopped at a Target store yesterday after she had her radiation treatment. I stayed in the truck with the dog, and observed zero people under the age of 60 entering or leaving the store with a mask on. I have also noticed while shopping that most of the stores here have done away with the sanitizing stations at the entrances with hand sanitizer and sanitizing spray or wipes for the shopping cart handles. I was in a dollar store the other day and the hand sanitizer dispenser at the door was empty as usual. I pulled mine out of my pocket to sanitize my hands as well as the handle on the cart, and a lady asked me if she could have a squirt. Of course I was happy to give her some. I went to the hand sanitizer display, grabbed a bottle of it, popped the little flip top open on it and set it on the sanitizer dispenser at the door. How much can it possibly cost for a merchant to provide a hand sanitizing station at the door?
I don't consider myself paranoid when it comes to fearing contracting the virus between our vaccination status and our natural immunity, but I find it nothing short of stupid when people bring politics into the equation and recklessly refusing to comply with any government recommendations simply because they perceive it as an assault on constitutional rights.
Those of us who are complying with the mandates and recommendations and getting vaccinated, wearing masks, and keeping our distance when possible may be labeled as sheep, but at least we are live sheep.
There now. I have vented and gotten all that frustration off my chest for now. End rant.
