www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/colin-powell-dies-10-18-21/index.htmlA sad day for America. Colin Powell was a true patriot who served in the military for 35 yrs, retiring as a 4 star general and Chief of Staff. He went on to serve as the first black Secretary of State. His accomplishments as both a highly regarded and respected military leader, and a great statesman will be forever remembered and respected. He was a man to be admired and revered for a lifetime of service to the country he loved. He was fully vaccinated but compromised by a long time fight with cancer. We lost a true hero when he closed his eyes for the last time and took his last breath. May he rest in peace.

News on Spectrum just did a short piece of him and now I remember him. He was the one that lied about weapons of mass destruction being in Iraq so we would have a reason to take out Sadaam H.

Out of a very long and distinguished career of service that is the one thing you remember?

He was Secretary of State under President George HW Bush, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Panama crisis as well as during Desert Storm, and the Persian Gulf war. It is rather sad that a man with such a laudable career is remembered more for one incident when many believe that he was misled by faulty intelligence and was one more victim of a Democratic witch hunt. He served as Joint Chief under Bush Sr and Secretary of State under Jr.
Sad that a 4 star General with a distinguished 35 year military career, as well as a great statesman and diplomat is remembered in a negative vein for the one incident. Desert Storm has gone down in history as one of the most successful military campaigns ever fought.

I didn't know he had cancer. I often wondered why he gave that U.N. speech. He claimed he got bad intel, who knows but he admitted he was wrong & he atoned for it. It takes a big man in this day & age to admit they were wrong.
I haven' t heard any shots taken against Powell by Dems in quite a while. But I did hear Trumptards blasting him because he critisized 45 & wouldn't genuflect at the feet of dear leader for life sent by God Trump. Even today on the day of his passing members of 45's cult have leveled some real vicious attacks against him calling him a traitor etc etc. Any excuse to give the former game show host the old reach around.

My little brother's unit was deployed from Ft. Hood to the Gulf for Desert Storm. He was hospitalized in the US for a lung issue for a few days. By the time he got out the war was over and the Iraqi army was on the run. Many people criticized Bush Sr. for not going to Bagdad and taking out Sadam. I think he stood up to a bully and the bully backed down and didn't bother him again.
