WOMAN DIES FROM GUNSHOT WOUND IN UTICA; MAN AT THE SCENE FACING WEAPONS CHARGES UTICA, N.Y. (UPDATED) -- A Utica man is facing weapons charges following an investigation into a woman’s death in South Utica early Tuesday morning. Police were called to the scene after a report of shots fired at a home on Leslie Avenue around 3 a.m. The responding officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. Steven Mancuso Police are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause and manner of death. The woman’s name will not be released at this time. Police say 50-year-old Steven Mancuso was at the home at the time of the incident, and aside from the death investigation, he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm based on a prior felony conviction and lack of a permit. Mancuso was sentenced to 44 months in prison in 2010 after he, his brother and his father were convicted of an illegal asbestos removal scheme.
