I see on the WKTV webpage that it is going to be 89 there in CNY today. It is going to be 92 here today, but the heat index is going to be 96 or more. I love the outdoors but I will be staying in and staying cool today. A heat index of 96 degrees makes it too hard to breathe to do anything particularly productive outside or in my shop. I was up at 6am again. It seems that since the pandemic began and we are limited in activity and social interaction somewhat by the heat wave, and the pandemic as well as Kathy's physical and mobility limitations, I have developed some sleep issues. I used to go to bed at 11 and get up at 7 or so. Now I go to bed at midnight or after, and I am awake and unable to get back to sleep at 6 and sometimes earlier. It has become more and more frustrating as time goes on. I am heading out to pick up some fairly large branches that blew down last night in a fast moving severe thunderstorm. I had gone to pick up a prescription for Kathy and it was just starting to get cloudy and dark. Within the 15 minutes I was in the drug store it started to pour. It came down so hard that I could hardly see the cars in front of me or headlights going in the other direction until they were close It got scary when the winds were blowing so hard that large branches were blowing out of the tops of very tall trees and landing in the road. A limb fell directly in front of me and got wedged under the truck. I had to pull into Dollar General and get out in the deluge to pull it loose from under the truck. I was soaked to the skin.
Regarding sleep issues,I just listened to a doctor speak on the Today show about pandemic related sleep disorders, and am beginning to believe that my sleep patterns have been altered by factors related to the confinement of the pandemic, as well as the physical after effects that seem to be lingering since we had the virus last December. I have always been active and stayed active and occupied, filling my days with activity that kept me on the move, and left me physically tired and able to get to sleep, to sleep well, and wake up refreshed and energized. Now I wake up with limited energy and have to actually try to find something to fill my day. I am not one to sit in front of the TV. I like to stay busy and just sit down to the computer whenever I come in to rest and take a break.
I was talking with a friend yesterday. He asked me if I am feeling depressed with the pandemic and the limiting of some of our normal activity it produces. He describes the same issues that I do. He is also having issues with his sleep pattern, and with planning how to fill his days. We both agree that we are not terribly "depressed" and simply more bored than anything. He also had the virus last spring, and describes having the same issues that I have noticed. We both noted lingering fatigue issues, getting easily winded by physical activity, and the boredom. He, like me, always woke up with a full day ahead. Now we wake up and actually have to make a concentrated effort to find something to fill the day.
Here is a link I found concerning the pandemic and sleep related issues:

How many of the rest of you are experiencing sleep issues that you could attribute to the pandemic that you didn't have before we became limited and effected by the virus. I guess there is a certain level of relief to be able to find a possible reason for sleep issues that have been occupying people's minds, including my own.
