I was up early this morning and browsing on market place. There was an estate sale that was selling everything for 1/2 price because it was the last day of the sale. It opened at 9 and I was parked and waiting at quarter of nine. I was the first one through the door. I scored a real bargain on a Craftsman Jointer/Planer for 50 bucks. A real deal. It is just like new and they retail for over $300. They were asking $100. I offered $50 and they sold it to me for $50 www.amazon.com/CRAFTSMAN-CMEW020-Amp-Benchtop-Jointer/dp/B07Y476PHF/ref=pd_lpo_1?pd_rd_i=B07Y476PHF&psc=1

Weather was rather varied here today. It was muggy and foggy early, and turned sunny and bright later this morning. Hotter than heck all day and you could cut the humid air with a knife. I ran the edges of some of the beautiful red oak that I reclaimed from pallet lumber over the jointer so I can glue some up for cutting boards or charcuterie boards when I get a chance to get back in the shop some day soon. 9"x12" red oak cutting boards sell on Ebay for anywhere from $16 upward.
When I finished that little fun time project I began to wash the motorhome in preparation for our camping trip Monday. I no more than started and it rained. It poured hard enough that I was trapped in the carport and shop for about a half an hour before it stopped so I could finish washing the camper. I went to the grocery store in the sunshine and blue sky and when I came out it was once again pouring rain. That shower only lasted about 5 minutes. Weird weather patterns lately.

We've gotten more then our share of rain this month. I mowed the lawn last Monday & today it's more then overdue to be cut again. Last year mid July most of our lawn was brown & dormant. Everybody's was who didn't water.

Rain predicted for this entire week! I predict much flooding in Mohawk Valley. No use opening the pool. I see the Mohawk River is filling up with more than rain. ssued: 07-18-2021, 11:15:23 Affects: New York - Oneida - Yorkville The Oneida County WPCP, NY0025780 is issuing this notification. Discharge location: 198 Whitesboro St., Yorkville, NY Location details: 960 ft north of Whitesboro St -Oriskany Blvd intersection Waterbody affected: Mohawk River Discharge description: Potentially impacted public areas: Unknown - Discharge date and time: 07-18-2021 11:10:00 Discharge duration: 24 Hours Discharge reason: Weather Conditions - Excessive rain exceeded the capacity of the pumping station. Ongoing Steps taken to contain discharge: The discharged is minimized by adjusting the SSO valve to minimize the discharge and maximize flow to the treatment plant. Volume/rate of discharge: 5555 Gallons per Minute Estimated Treated state of discharge: Partially Treated without Disinfection Additional information: The discharge occurs when wet weather or snow melt exceeds the capacity of the pumping station. When this occurs, a valve is opened sending dilute wastewater to the Mohawk River. This prevents flooding of the pump station and basements in the Villages of Yorkville and Whitesboro. The discharge is currently being addressed under NYSDEC consent order R620060823-67. For more information on what the County is doing and how you can help, visit our website at rippleeffectocsd.org For more information on the Sewage Pollution Right to Know Act visit SPRTK. [Disclaimer: Daily and/or termination reports will be provided for ongoing discharges. Wet weather CSO do not need to report daily nor provide a termination report. The information provided in this message is accurate at the time of report using existing systems and models.] NY-Alert Support - NYAlertSupport@its.ny.gov www.Alert.ny.govI saw a lot of floaters yesterday afternoon. I see people boating and fishing in that river, yuck

It IS a situation in need of a remedy but it is a huge improvement in both regulation and compliance with the regulations in recent decades. When I was in my early teens there was a pipe behind a good many houses on the east side of Trenton Ave, and the West side of Coventry Ave. that dumped raw sewage directly into Reel's Creek. When we later moved to Newport and I began fishing several evenings a week, the same was true along the West Canada. Many of the houses in Poland, Newport, and Middleville that bordered the creek dumped directly into the creek. I could stand across the creek from Main St. in Newport and see a stream of seeping sewage and toilet paper making it's way from the top of the bluff to the water. It is going to be a good many years before the sewer systems causing the the overflow problem in the Utica area can be completely repaired so sanitary sewers are separated from storm water sewers. Utica's sewers are antiquated beyond the point of any reasonably quick remediation.

Isn't Harbor Point part of the Mohawk River and wouldn't the river impact the heath of the waters in Harbor Point. That is supposed to be used for recreational activities! Plus businesses and apartments will all be located around the Harbor.

Yes it definitely will affect the harbor. I have never quite understood how they could think the harbor would be a huge success recreationally UNLESS the water quality was improved upon. "Recreational activity" in that cesspool will be limited to limited boating opportunities, such as a canal tour or something. I don't know if the state still uses the majority of the harbor to dock their tugs and dredges and store all the buoys and equipment, so there may be little to no place for much recreational use.
I can't imagine wanting to sit on a patio, sipping a cocktail or eating a meal, while overlooking a smelly polluted. waterfront. The Mohawk and the canal don't smell very good on a GOOD day, much less on a hot and sticky summer evening.
Has anyone happened to attend the food truck thing that they have had there or any of the activities that have been happening the last couple of years? I have read about something to do with shipping containers and vendors and such but have no idea exactly what the story was.

I believe the harbor was dredged to remove the coal tar & other contaminets that polluted that area & the bottom was capped. I think National Grid paid for the work because they now own the land where the businesses that dumped pollutents into the water decades ago were located. I know of one auto repair shop that was bought out under eminent domain, the business tore down & relocated. I don't see that area ever being developed as a tourist attraction. That was the talk 30 years ago.
