www.uticaod.com/news/x1600194297/Chase-of-motorcyclist-ends-with-Verona-arrestHat's off to Deputy Brian Warcup who is also a part of the "Clipper" family. With speeds of 100 at times this must have been one helluva ride. Thankfully Warcup didn't let the adrenaline rush effect his thinking and was able to follow procedure without injuring himself or a innocent civilian. As Middaugh said, "Warcup opted to turn the police lights off and keep the motorcycle in sight as he radioed to other vehicles that were in the vicinity". The first driver probably went and bought a lottery ticket thinking it was his lucky day haha. Good job again Brian on a great pursuit and capture.

Thanks for the kudos gang. I do appreciate it. I thought he had a better reason for running than just an expired motorcycle permit. I was not gonna have him pile up with me chasing him the way he was passing. Pretty ironic how the first car he passed and nearly hit happened to live where he decided to stop. That odds of that coincidence just boggle my mind. I'll tell ya in 23 years i have had 6 pursuits and caught 5. It is a good feeling.
Anyway thanks forthe praise and I could care less if I have another one.

Thanks again!

Way to go Brian. That is keeping it cool and safe for the public. The radio is faster than the patrol car. Hell, anyone running on a motorcycle is eventually going to crash if the pursuit continues. YOU save the man's life, whether his dumb ass knows it or not, and you protected the rest of the motoring public at the same time. One can't put a price on experience and good judgement.

Thanks again guys. However there seems to be some turmoil developing among the crotch rocket riders. I arrested a rider before this pursuit. I stopped him for "goosing" it coming under the bridge by the canal. That caused the front wheel to come up off the ground and 3-4 inches with his girlfriend on the back, plus he had no eye protection. My intention was to stop him and warn him. I stop him and the first thing he says is "Why are you stopping me I wasn't doing anything wrong". To make a long story short, he had an attitude from the get go. I wrote him for no eye prtotection and a mohawk type decoration on his helmet which he said was "bullshit" after I warned and explained the section to him Typical though he talked himself right into the tickets. The sheriff was down the road watching the whole thing and then asked me about it the next day as he saw the kid waving his arms and ranting. The first three weeks in June of Bike night I gave out more warnings and expl;ained what the residents don't like and what we are looking for. Anything that is unsafe, loud or fast. I tell them "if they don't draw attention to themselves, we won't bother them". Alot of people appreciated that being explained and alot of them complied with it. However you always have those few.
10 MINUTES LATER AFTER I LET THIS KID GO.......
I am coming back down Main St back towards the canal and I see this kid and his friends pointing at me and looking so I ignore them and look the other way as I drive by. Just when I get next to him he revs his bike so the exhaust barked pretty loud several times. WELL, I pull the Tahoe over and get out just as he is pulling away headed towards me. Now I'm pissed. I tell him to pull over and he does. I walk up to him and tell him that he is now under arrest for Disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle, unreasonable noise that serves no legitimate putrpose section, and to put his hands behind his back. he got porky so I usnapped my taser and told him to comply or he would be tased. After some grumbl;ing he complied and I cuffed him and put him in the truck. I started the arrest paperwork in the truck and his attitude continued. Anywho, I finished and gave him his ticket and told him to leave the Beach and don't bother coming back until he decides to play nice. NOW the kids have a web site
315riders.com... a site for anyone but primarily for riders in the 315 area code who ride sport bikes. A friend told me about the site and a thread about me, the arrest and other stuff on there, so I signed up and started to read. I came across a couple of posts from this kid and another basically threatening me and Tpr. Dave Olney. I called Dave and told him. The posts also state how they are going to get people to make statements against us, fabricate stuff, and how they have calls into people about us, which if you read the posts, its calls to THEIR people, not ours.
We both made copies of the thread and are going to our bosses with it to cover our asses. I have already talked to Dan about it and he said whre the hell does he think he is going with it, I saw the whole thing. LOL!!! They thought the heat was on before, wait for the rest of the summer. LOL... The is the amazing part, anyone we have dealt with out there is always from west of the Beach, and Syracuse and its' suburbs. I can count on three fingers how many from Oneida County that I have dealt with. Even the Harley riders aren't that bad. oh well another day in the life and times of local law enforcement LOL. Thanks again folks.

I give you and all peace officers everywhere the utmost respect. At one time I considered trying out, but I now know I'd never have the restraint that you have.
I'd be in moooore trouble than, well you can imagine..........
Thanks for being there.

It amazes me that with all the Cop shows on TV that people still don't understand that if you loose the attitude you probably would loose the ticket and get off with a warning.
Hard to feel sorry for people like this. They don't change at all when they get in Prison either, still the same attitude that got them their in the first place.
I had a physical altercation recently with a convict that refused to show me what the bulge in his pocket was and also refused to comply with a Pat Frisk. With tons of attitude and pent up aggression he caught me off guard and punched me with a closed fist in my chest, instant pain shot through me like I broke my collar bone and he then lunged at me sending us both over a desk. After a long struggle I was able to get him to the floor and literally had to choke him out before I was able to reach for my radio and call for backup.
The ironic part was the item in his pocket was a bag of lollipops, that's right, a bag of lollipops. He was cuffed and stuffed and taken to a cozy cell.
He received Departmental charges and I reported to the State Police Barracks and pressed charges against him. He did not get the bag of lollipops back but did receive another 3yr bid for assaulting a Peace Officer.
I recovered as always with a large dose of ibuprofen without missing any work.

I know what you mean Todd, I did almost 3 years in our jail before going on the street. That can be as dangerous as the street at times.
I had to chuckle, someone from this forum posted my post above on the sport bike web site. I don't know if it was maliciously done or to break balls. Either way I'm glad they did because now they are seeing what we deal with an why we act the way we do when confronted. They seem to think that they are singled out but theyr eally aren't. I've written as many Harley riders for helmets, prolly more, than sport bikes. I've been letting them all slide when they ride through the beach with only one hand on the bars trying to look and act cool. They can't understand what a break is I guess. I had sportbike riders at the beginning of the season thanking me as they left the beach for the warnings rather than tickets and they continue to comply when they come back. I have even had bikers from last year who I forgot about come up to me and say thanks or wave as they go by. I don't know maybe some of the riders are just bad apples that don't want to comply and want to test the waters. It boils down to if you don't draw attention to yourself and obey the law, you ahve nothing to worry about or to be pissed off about. But when you give an attiutde right from the get go, game on!!
P.S. I just want to clarify a statement in my previous post about covering our asses with going to our bosses. Going to our bosses was to inform them of the mentality of some of these riders and people posting stuff on that website and it is clear that some have intentions of possibly causing bodily harm to an officer. Some of those posts have been since deleted I see but we still have the original copies. Comments like that only tend to heighten the tensions of any interaction that may come between law enforcement and riders, which is only going to punish the good riders, which I have seen alot of good riders out there. And that goes back to what I said before, if you don't draw attention to yourself then you have nothing to worry about.

That's what we call a pot stirrer and they usually are not the one that carries through with the violence. They just sit back as the pot boils over. A true punk. This is even more dangerous because you went from one person to a whole group.
You were smart to take this to your superiors and let administration hopefully notify all Police Agencies of the possible harm that may come their way.

hi everyone. i am owner of www.315riders.com. So to be honest i am on wcups side on this. some of our riders are jerks or assholes. but most are mature, and great riders. even the stunters that we have that do shows and stunt on the streets are professional about it. they know what they are doing and are careful about it. but then there is others that are new on bikes and make us look bad. which was both of the riders that wcup delt with. now the reason i had complaints about the whole deal with this is cause as a sport bike rider we deal with alot of hate from most police officers. we get followed, pulled over and harassed with every ticket they can think of, even when we do nothen but are riding down road. all cause of Officer todecheni getting killed in a police chase 2 years ago. most cops hate us and are after us. so thats why everyone was voicing opinions on this subject. but anyways i just want you guys to understand we are all not bad. some of us like my self. just like to cruise, go out to eat and stuff like that, and when i get pulled over i usually am calm and cool with police unless he is a asshole to me, then i am back.

To add to frankthetank's post, we had a phone conversation with frank today and we agreed that problems exist on both sides. I think we had a good conversation and understood each other's viewpoints. Each side has people that tend to tarnish the image of their respective groups and people tend to get defensive when criticizm is directed at their particular organization. Hopefully the message gets out before this weeks bike night and everyone can have a safe and "uneventful" and enjoyable night.

It's great that you two came to an understanding. I am still concerned about the so called pot stirrer. Has he been kicked off the site for his postings or just how is he being dealt with?
I hope everything turns out good for Bike Night but I am still skeptical. After all it only takes one to get a group stirred up which then leads into crowd. I have seen this happen many times and the only way to eliminate this is to eliminate the pot stirrer.
Good luck to everyone!
