They say that our normal phone number has been ported over to Spectrum, yet it will not ring and the line is dead if we pick up the phone, which means that the old provider has cancelled our phone service and shut it off, so we don't even have the temporary number working.
Being the "silver tongued" devil I am managed to hold my anger and politely notify the customer service rep that if a technician was not here TODAY to finally correct the problem and get our landline phone working my next call would be to cancel our service and go to satellite and ATT phone service. Result? Technician will be here at 1 pm today. We will see how THAT works out. This entire process is getting a bit ridiculous.

The other provider didn't shut off our phone. Spectrum chose to put us over to a temporary telephone number until they could take possession of our number from the old company when they did the installation. The old provider jerked them around before it would release the number for porting it over. It was a major pain in the ass and we had to call all our family and friends and give them a the temporary number in the meantime.

why didn't Spectrum simply give you the temporary number in the very beginning? Or are you supposed to ask? Can't ask if you don't know such a deal exhists. Fish and houseguests stink after 3 days.

Spectrum provided the temporary number option short term just in case our regular number was lost in the porting process. Had the old provider cut our service prior to porting the number to Spectrum our number would have been lost forever. Part of the porting process included Spectrum actually canceling the former provider's service when they had successfully secured possession of the number being ported.

what a stinkin' mess. I had Verizon for years. That was a debacle. Spectrum is only one step under them... a deboocle.

I had verizon for years. I started with Cellular One on Commercial Drive, then they went to Alltel, and eventually to Verizon. With each change there was inherent problems. I dumped Verizon because of the dead zones or places where the service was "roaming' and the fees were ridiculous.
My son manages an ATT store in Cicero and his own cell phone repair and sales business in Oneida. He put me on his family plan. ATT has been great service wise, and I have never been without service. He gave me an Iphone as a gift, and the following father's day he gave me an Ipad, all of which are on unlimited data, and it costs me nothing.

I had Verizon when cell phones really started to take off. The service wasen't bad but the cost was ridiculous. I dumped them & bought a cheap Tracfone which was a big mistake. I now have Straightalk at less then $50/month & have never had a problem. I also signed up for Verison DSL which was another gaff on my part that I usually don't admit to. Lol

My first cellular phone was a bag phone with a lead acid battery and the phone in a zipper pouch. The damned thing weighed about 5 pounds or more. I bought it when I had my business so I could receive business calls in the van or in a customer's house. Of course in those days I also carried a pager on my belt when I wasn't carrying that boat anchor of a phone around with me. I did a lot of work up North and the cell service back then was only good as far as Forestport.
