When we stopped at the Amish market yesterday for lunch they had a sale on Florida strawberries. Unbelievable price. They had a chest high pallet of them, $10 per 8 quart cardboard flat. Kathy's chore for the day is to clean them, and prep them for vacuum packing for the freezer. We LOVE strawberries and still have a couple of packages in the freezer from last year. This eight quarts will carry us until the local berries come out later this spring. strawberry shortcake, strawberry cream cheese pie in a graham cracker crust, strawberry cheese cake, strawberries on waffles and pancakes, strawberry refrigerator jam, and sliced strawberries on my cereal. Mmmm Mmmm good. We love our strawberries. Time to get out and shop for a few things, work in the yard and garden for a few hours until the rain comes. Showers beginning this afternoon or evening, continuing into tomorrow with some strong thunderstorms and winds and possibly some small hail expected tomorrow afternoon. I will be hunkered down with the truck hidden under the carport, safe from any hail.

Walmart has some fantastic looking ones. I am not to much of a strawberry fan. I think I bought one container last year. I think I will by another this PM after my 2nd COVID shot. I like them cut up they covered with Greek Yogurt.
I am a big blueberry eater. I have three to four handfuls each day. It is the perfect fruit. A few years back I was buying two containers( they do get expensive) and an older lady was also picking up several containers and she said to me that she eats 5 handfuls of them each day and feels wonderful.
I haven't seen her in as many years. Oh well maybe she is dead!!!!

I have to hit my favorite produce market today for salad ingredients and bananas. I may have to grab some blueberries. I like them in my oatmeal or mixed into my bran flakes. Kathy gives them a gentle squish, just enough to pop the skins open, and sprinkles them with sugar. After an overnight rest in the refrigerator they are sweet and succulent and add a delicious pop to my breakfast cereal.

When we buy fresh berries of any kind we always soak them in cold water for a few hours to grt rid of any pesticides, bugs etc.

I never remember to wash fruit or veggies. Guess I am full of pesticides and maybe a reason why I am such a pest.
And I forgot to buy the strawberries, darn. I must remember to write down things I want to purchase.
