70's again today. It has been a weird spring so far. The back lawn as been growing and got tall enough to need mowing. March 10th. First mowing of the season.
I built a 8ft long by 4ft high frame cattle wire framed by two by 4's for the cucumbers to climb on, erected it, ran the tiller through the garden, and mowed the back yard. Tomorrow I hope to erect the fence around the garden plot to keep the animals out and sink two 4x4 posts for a gate. I am happiest when I can work outside or in my shop.
I hope you all are enjoying the warm spell in upstate NY. A little sampling of spring chases the blues away and signals that the cold weather is on the wane.

Well bless you for all u can do. It was nice up here today I think it hit near 60 degrees still cool enough for a winter coat.
All I did was get out of bed and put some cloths on and went to Walmart. My normal for any given day.
Tomorrow the temps may go a little above 60 then all hell breaks through with Friday and Saturday back to winter with temps in 30 and below. Kind of weather that makes ya sick.
I will have to buy some flowers tomorrow at the Walmart's to clear up my depression during this time of year. Oh well enjoy your yard.......
I had a friend in Syracuse that grew cucumbers on a trellis and I have to say they looked good and tasted even better. Not sure why.... He mixed them with pole beans which I absolutely love to eat. Oh my pole beans and potatoes in a light tomato sauce...delicious.
God Bless you Clipper and Kathy too.

Bless you also PB. This time of year can be VERY depressing. I imagine that it is exacerbated greatly when you live alone. Flowers certainly can cheer one up a bit. I love the fact that supermarkets have a floral department that makes it possible to purchase a bit of cheer at a reasonable price. Kathy has a couple of the $15 orchids on the kitchen window sill that she nurtures and enjoys. The day before yesterday I was at Kroger's and they had tulips that were on sale on a table for 99 cents. They were in a tall vase with their roots and bulb dangling in water. For 99 cents I bought 5. She has them perched in several places around the house on window sills, but when they are through blooming I will plant the bulbs outside.
I am very fortunate to have something outside the house that I enjoy that keeps me busy when I get a bit blue being cooped up in the house.
Even though you are limited in ability to travel and dependent on public transportation, there are still opportunities to get out and walk in nature. Birnie runs bus service to Rome, Oneida, and Syracuse, as well as down the valley. Frankfort has a very nice marina and adjoining park with benches, and Rome has all sorts of places to walk along the waterfront in that little park named after Bellamy. You can sit and watch boats go by and people fishing. I certainly love to see a way for you to expand your horizons farther than going to Walmart every day. I know a little about depression. I endured it for several years when I drank. Have a good day my friend and keep your chin up. Summer is on the horizon.

PB, I need something to get me off my butt. If you contact me, I can pick you up anywhere in the Utica area. I live in the neighborhood uphill from the Kellogg Mall. I have a walking route which includes a stop overlooking a stream with a waterfall.
