We went from sunny and 76 yesterday afternoon to intermittent showers last night, and steady downpours all night. The little creek across the road that is normally a couple of feet wide and little more than a babbling brook is over it's banks this morning and running fast, deep, and brown. Down the road a ways it is running over the road a couple of inches deep where I suspect the culvert is plugged with branches or something. There are some road closures and mud slides in the surrounding mountain counties in Virginia. Thank goodness it is supposed to let up soon and just be gloomy and gray for the rest of the day. We have to go to Kathy's doctor later and then out to dinner at Long Horn Steakhouse with friends. Not as warm today. Only in the low to mid 50's, and the upcoming week looks like it will be in the high 40's and low 50's for the next few days. It's that gloomy time of year when the weather is changeable, and we see sharp swings in temperatures and these drizzly days. It is that same transition that we are used to seeing in mid April when we lived in NY, just a bit earlier here.
Our yard is undergoing that transition also. When I was out cleaning up yesterday I noticed that the grass is already growing and will probably need to be mowed in a couple of weeks. I hate it when the lawn looks so lousy with clumps of green mixed with nasty looking brown patches. Whoever planted the original lawn must have used 4 or 5 different varieties of grass seed. It is ugly clumps of this and that all over the entire 3/4 acre until it is all greened up and uniform so I can mow.

Yep, it's the Ides Of March. Today we're under a high wind warning & later the temp is going to drop like a sinker with it going down to 7* overnight. Tomorrow it's a high of 23 with a wind chill around 12. Looks like a good day for soup. I found a recipe for Zuppa Toscano on FB. Gonna try that. And it's March & we'll get there!

I love Zuppa Toscano. I order it at Olive Garden whenever we go there for lunch. They have a soup and salad all you can eat lunch special.

I have made Suppa Toscano it is very tasty. It is windy out and colder. I got my COVID vaccine today and get the second dose on March 29. Very well organized event with absolutely no waiting except for a 15 minute wait after receiving the vaccine. They have to check if you are still alive. My appointment was for 11 AM and I was out by 11:25AM. Perfect.

My daughter in-law Makes an awesome Zuppa Toscano. When they were here last fall she made a huge batch and we had two of the big plastic ice cream tubs full of it to freeze. We ate the last of it on New Years Eve. With all the soups that Kathy and I like to make and eat I should really get the recipe. I remember it was a bit more complicated to make than the average soup.

She was telling him how she has had to ask me to add or subtract something for her when she was writing checks. She has always been extremely sharp with numbers. He said that it is probably "brain fog" attributed to the virus and that it will hopefully pass. He also told her that the latest data tends to say that people who have had the most serious cases of Covid and survived are more than likely to have more antibodies and a higher level of immunity than those like me who had a very mild case. He told her that she should wait at least 6 months before getting the vaccine because they are making advances with the vaccines every day and a later formulation may work better for the variants and the latest strains at that time. In my case he said since I had a very mild case I should make an appointment with the VA and get the vaccine as soon as I can because my immunity may be lower than hers.

It was just for all in elderly/disabled housing under the umbrella of MHA/HUD. Similar to the pop ups for blacks, browns and legal and illegal immigrants and refugees.

I seriously worry about the variants. Even the CDC is perking its interest with substantial concern. This virus keeps mutating and each time it get more high contagious. One Doctor said boosters if available and if they can keep up will be constantly needed. Imagine having to stand in line again someplace all over again for and number of booster shots. Eventually someone will run out of the money needed to produce then and pay those who do it.
