www.wktv.com/content/news/573706202.htmlCops like those involved in this incident give cops all over the country a bad name. I watched the video and was appalled with the entire thing. In the video a call was made for back-up. after the little girl was sprayed the camera's panned up the street and there had to be at least 6 or 8 more patrol cars and a multitude of cops milling about. Why the hell that many cops couldn't physically restrain a 9 yr old is beyond me. Shame on them. They must want Rochester to burn and people to die during anti police demonstrations as has happened in other places. I normally sympathize with police but this incident is a disgusting use of unnecessary force. If a half dozen cops can't control a 9yr old it will take the whole damned police force to restrain a full grown adult.

I have restrained more than one 9 year old without backup or pepper spray.

Exactly. I have seen situations like that with full grown adults that would not get into the car. They simply shoved them onto the seat and another cop on the other side of the car reached in and pulled them the rest of the way in so they could shut the door.
Over the years I have picked up and restrained more than one kid that was having a tantrum of one sort or another. it more than likely ended with someone's butt cheeks getting warmed and confinement to their room.
It is sad that a girl that young would consider killing herself and her mom. She is either a drama queen and a brat, or a very troubled young lady, in need of some professional intervention.

If the cops had PHYSICALLY RESTRAINED this brat the cops would be in trouble for doing that. The brat would not comply to an order to get into the car. Maybe a mental health issue here but cops are not trained for that. Pepper spraying her I think was the correct thing to do.

Pizzaballa: I am horrified and disgusted by your post and I pray to god that you never have any children. Your attitude , absence of compassion and lack of intelligent discourse on this sensitive topic repulses me. If you think pepper spraying a nine year old girl, handcuffing her and tossing her into the back of a police car was the right thing to do, God help you.

I can concur with handcuffing her and putting her in a police car, but the manner in which they accomplished that was ridiculously over the top. I read someplace that the intention was to take her to a hospital for a mental evaluation, which is normal procedure when it is believed that a person might harm themselves or someone else. There is not enough information about the events that led up to the situation, but it looks like that little girl needs some serious intervention. We don't know what her home environment is like. She was calling out for her father and had been fighting with her mother. I got the impression that her father might be estranged from the mother.
I am glad that the officers involve were suspended. They should be fired. Hold on to your shorts. Rochester may become the next Kenosha. NBC nightly news just showed a short interview with the little girls mother. She said the only reason she called was because the girl threatened to kill herself. She say she wouldn't have called if she knew that the police would over react in such an overly physical manner.

This brat threatened her parent(s) that she was going to kill them the reason they called police. She obviously was mentally ill ( provided a diagnosis from a licensed health professional). She refused to comply with orders from police. They police were completely within their rights to exercise any method(s) to get the perp under control so as to not hurt herself or others. She even kicked a cop( a felony). Police were totally right and justified.
We are getting very close to the time when a separate but equal police force will be needed to control blacks and browns. Huge problem is that minorities generally do not wat to be police officers because of the sigma associated with do that.
From the way it was presented on this evenings news I am beginning to wonder if this was a set up by the parent(s) to trap the police. I would not be surprised. Compassion is not needed in this case just justice and the cops acted correctly. Bravo to them.
