We went bowling with friends. When I tried to start the truck with the remote it would not start. When we got into the truck I tried to start it with the key fob and all it did was click. It was a five year battery and it has been just about 5 yrs since we bought the truck. We got a jump and went to Auto Zone. They wanted $193 counting the core charge and tax. The longest life battery they sell is 36 months. He said they haven't carried 5 yr batteries for 4 or 5 yrs. The nice young man that waited on me and tested the battery in the truck told me that I could go to Rural King farm store and buy a battery much cheaper. I don't imagine his boss would be too happy that he told me that, but I sincerely appreciated it. I bought a 60 month battery that carries the normal limited warranty. Total cost? $153 out the door for the battery and a pair of jumper cables in case it wouldn't start when we came out of Perkins after eating. Our friends were with us in so we could get jump started if it didn't start. We were very lucky it happened when it did. A few minutes later and I would not have been able to get a battery until tomorrow. Rural King closes at 9 and we walked in the door at 4 minutes to nine.
The truck started when we came out so I will pop the new battery in tomorrow morning after I go for my cardiologist appointment. It was only 18 degrees and not too conducive to working outside in a bowling shirt and a fairly light jacket. At least I will have the new battery on the floor in the back seat to use to jump it if it doesn't start at the doctor's office.
It's only going to 39 degrees tomorrow but it is better than the cold day we had today. It barely hit 30. Saturday will be 50 so if I get to the doctor and back I may hook up the trickle charger and wait til then to change the battery out.
