Ballad Health, our local health care system, put a plea in the newspaper this morning for antigen rich plasma. It stated that the plasma with antibodies has proven effective in a large number of cases in lessening the effects of the virus and improving the odds of recovery. I swear that it is the plasma they gave Kathy as soon as she arrived on the covid unit is what kick started her recovery.
There are several places here that pay your $100 for plasma with antibodies. I would be more inclined to donate for free at the hospital. Who knows where your plasma would end up if you donate at a commercial blood bank. I will have to call around on Monday and see if I can donate. I read in one place that they only take plasma from people between the ages of 18 and 65. If I can donate it will be the least I can do in return for the excellent care that Kathy received.
They are a bit disappointed that with thousands of recovered Covid patients here, the percentage that are donating the life saving plasma is very low.
I also checked to see if giving plasma would be jeopardizing my OWN immunity and found that it has absolutely no affect on my immunity and in fact I could donate more than once. it is my understanding that the antigens in your own body reproduce and ramp up as soon as any Covid related infection triggers white cell production.

I've heard of that treatment & I'm wondering if it's offered around here because I haven't heard of our health care system asking for donations of that plasma. It's not like there is a shortage of candidates to donate.

Precisely. I would be very surprised to hear that they DON'T use it. It needs to be administered early. Kathy got it 3 days after exhibiting the high fever and shortness of breath. As time passes and the virus gets a better hold it isn't as effective.
I would check it out just for the heck of it. Hopefully you or yours will never need it.

I know of 3 people who became infected & none of them were offered that treatment as far as I know. Two are recovering, one didn't make it. All three of them were told to go home, monitor symptoms, the old take 2 aspirin & go to bed routine. Frankly, the heath care system in this area leaves a lot to be desired.
