I ordered online a pair of winter boots and it came with free delivery. In the email confirmation they said package would be delivered Saturday. Fine with me. This morning I get an email that package will be delivered today ( Thursday ) since the merchandize was also at a local store. Package just arrived at 11:50AM.

As much as I dislike Walmart, people that shop there, either curbside or online are very pleased with the speedy delivery of on-line merchandise and a neighbor says that their curbside pick up as well as local delivery of groceries is the best in town. Our neighbor started using their grocery delivery when his entire family was positive for Covid 19 and was so pleased with the promptness of delivery that he is going to continue to have their groceries delivered quite often.
I went to Kroger's this morning in Abingdon because they had the whole frozen Kroger brand turkeys on sale for 49 cents a pound. Neither the Bristol store of the one Kingsport had gotten any from the distribution warehouse. The only size they had left was 15 lbs and up. I ended up with two of them that weigh 15 3/4 lbs. They cut them in half for me and triple wrapped them for the freezer. Kroger's offers 10% discount to veterans or military with photo veteran or military ID. I ended up bringing home 30 1/2 pounds of turkey for a little over 14 bucks.
Kroger's had at least 8 customers parked in the pick up area waiting for their orders to be brought to their cars. The pandemic has made curbside pickup explode in popularity.
I wasn't crazy about getting up from the breakfast table and rushing out the door to drive to Abingdon, but that is a good price.
We eat a lot of chicken and turkey. I have been buying the breasts whenever they come on sale but the last few I purchased seemed to cook up dry. These 1/2 turkeys will be cooked in a roasting bag to prevent that. ( I am in the process of eating a turkey salad sandwich as we speak. Kathy took a half of a breast out of the freezer. With just the two of us we usually only eat one side of the breast and end up with the other side of the breast for a future supper or for sandwiches.

Turkey breast that is what I need to get I baked on of them many years ago and liked it and a lot easier that the whole bird. I cooked a Turkey tender for Christmas day ( I think it was that day my memory seems to fault me) and I enjoyed it very tender and juicy and very easy to bake.

It's good to have a grocer that will actually help out a customer such as cutting a turkey in half. A couple years ago I was in Price Chopper New Hartford & asked someone at the meat counter to slice a turkey breast in half for me. The answer was "sorry, we don't have anyone here who can do that". My answer was, "no problem, here's your turkey breast back, now I'll head down the road to Hannaford's where I can get some service". Which is what I did & the meatcutter there cut one in half for me without any excuses. Now, I shop in Hannaford's more then PC.

Before we left NY we also grew dissatisfied with Price Chopper and started shopping at Topp's and Hannaford. I always wished that Wegman's would put a store in the Utica area. They were way ahead of the pack when it came to adding services such as salad bars and food courts, and their quality seemed to be a notch above Price Chopper. Now all the markets have the expanded services, prepared foods and dining areas, salad bars and fresh baked in the store baked goods.
We seldom bought meats anywhere except Chanatry's or a meat market so having something custom cut was never a problem.

Price Chopper here on Genesee Street is a very dangerous place, plus it's over priced and dirty. About 3 years ago I found some rodent droppings in a plastic tub of shredded cheese I bought at the deli. I know it sounds trite...rodent droppings in the cheese, but it happened. I didn't go in there for 3 years even though it is right on my corner. I go in there when I am desperate only. Up to this year there were constant panhandlers at the doors, both doors, all the time, but they took care of it. Then there were young teens on bikes on the parking lot who would attempt a purse snatching as you bent over to put your stuff in the car. In the spring I saw 2 grown men near the meat counter duking it out over a mask insult, while the employee who was loading the meat into the cooler blatantly ignored them. I left my cart and left the store. There is more trouble in that store, it attracts, drug addicts, ect. There was a heroin bust in the parking lot a few years ago. Now, the Price Chopper in New Hartford is called Marker 30 something, but he inner city store is a mess. I was shopping at Chanatry's but it is too expensive. I do all my groceries at the Christian Grocery on Lincoln Ave: Your Bargain Grocer, used to be Compassion Co-alition on Colombia Street, I know all the $$$ I spend goes right back into the community. It is totally clean and safe, like the old timey stores in the East end or West end in the 1950's. Everybody knows your name.

The Walmart on the Virginia side of Bristol is like you describe the Price Chopper in S. Utica. The Walmart on the Tennessee side is in a better neighborhood and is a cleaner, less crowded, and safer place to shop. Although there was a homicide there in the parking lot one afternoon a year or so ago when a husband waited for his meandering wife to come out of the store with her boyfriend. An altercation ensued and the boyfriend shot the guy while he sat in his car. They managed to drive off but security cameras caught the event and led to their arrest.
Personally I don't go to either one unless there is one hell of a sale price on something or I can't find something I need readily available anywhere else.

I shop at the North Utica shopping center basically because it is easier what with the Bus connections and my crazy travel schedule. I agree with the one in South Utica. Some idiot one day thought he was going to get money off me. I told him I don't carry money with me but he kept following me. I told him to leave me alone but he kept following. So the mace can came out and off he went. I carry protection.
