You know that does make complete sense. Why do I have to fear taking a walk! Why can't I have a means to protect myself that I do not have to go through so much governmental red tape.

The answer to most questions like that is "This is NY."

My concealed carry permit finally showed up in the mail today. I have legally been carrying the gun in the truck in the console, but now I can carry it on my person. I bought an "IWB" holster so I can carry the gun in a holster that fits inside my waist band with a clip that goes over my belt on the outside. The gun rests just behind my hip bone and ahead of my rear pocket so it doesn't interfere with sitting comfortably or with buckling my seatbelt and with my polo shirt untucked, a person would never know I was carrying.
I have always been a gun enthusiast. I used to shoot skeet when I lived in Oriskany Falls years ago, and I have ALWAYS hunted from the time I was 14 until I came here to Tennessee and found that I can't navigate the ridges here to hunt since I broke my back in 1996.
Although I have always owned guns, I never thought I would be carrying a pistol tucked in the back of my waist band. It is a common practice here in the South. I concur with those that believe that it is better to have a gun and never need it than to need a gun and not have one.
It is going to be in the 60's again tomorrow so I will probably go to a friends house to shoot the pistol. It takes quite a bit of practice to shoot a short barreled pistol accurately and the 9mm that I have is only 6 inches long with a 3 inch barrel and weighs 15 ounces unloaded.

Clipper- Congrats on getting your cc permit! You are correct- it takes quite a bit of practice to shoot accurately with a short barreled hand gun. Small framed 9mm pistols and 38 special revolvers are the perfect calibers for cc. Good luck at the range, and, don't blow all of your ammo. It's getting hard to find.

I only have about 70 rounds and will fire about 10 or 15. Yep, it is getting hard to find. I scored two boxes of 50 rounds from the local gun shop where I purchased the gun. He is only selling ammo to customers who purchased a gun there, and there is a waiting list. I am always on the prowl for more. It has become like toilet paper. Shelves are empty and anyone who is able to get any to sell is rationing it carefully. One of the boxes is 115 grain steel cased WPA Military Classic, manufactured in Russia. Not the best ammo on the market but beggars can't be choosers. That is what I will use today. I am back on his waiting list, and got on the waiting list at another local shop. I would like to be able to have about 200 rounds in the gun cabinet so that I would not have to be so careful about firing a few rounds.
I still plan to buy a little Taurus G2 9mm. I just like that gun but the only one I could find when I was originally in the market for a gun was in Virginia and they can't sell to a Tennessee resident. I am just not a fan of the long and stiff trigger pull on the little SCCY CPX2. The Taurus just feels better in my hand. My son and some of my friends carry Sigs, Glocks, or S&W but I just don't have any desire to spend 4 or 5 hundred bucks on a carry weapon at this point. I looked at a Walther PPQ M2 that a friend wanted to sell me the other day and liked the hand feel but the damned thing weighs over 24 ounces. Have to pull the belt up a bit tighter so it wouldn't pull a person's pants down, haha.
Have you found anywhere on line that you can buy 9mm? Everywhere I find it, it is marked "out of stock." Have you ever fired aluminum jacketed ammo? The friend that has the Walther ordered two boxes on line for only $15 a box.

Because they physically insert and extract rounds from the bore, pistols can be finnicky about the ammos that they accept. If the gun doesn't like a particular mfr's bullets, you will get failures to feed and/or failure to extract. Only by trying different ammo will you know whether or not the gun will accept it. My rule is to use the cheap stuff at the range, but, the good stuff when you carry. I only use jacketed, hollow tip ammo- Hornady Critical Defense, for carry, and, American Eagle at the range. Try not to use cheap ammo that has an exposed, lead projectile, as the lead residue fouls the bore by getting stuck in the lands and grooves, making it hard to clean out. That is not a problem with jacketed ammo. I haven't had a need to buy additional ammo, as I have enough already. Try to have at least 4 boxes of 50 rounds each, for each type of ammo that you need. Other than staying in the good graces of your local gun store, all you can do is search the internet (the shipping costs should be high, due to the weight). Good luck!

I only fired 14 rounds ( two 7 round magazines)today at a silhouette target. Managed 6 in a 5 inch group, 1 high and near the shoulder, 1 in the neck 1 in the gut and one that would have neutered the dude, haha. That little gun bucks pretty good and it takes me a second or two to get the sights back on target. Just a matter of getting use to it I guess. I fired the last 5 rapid fire. Only the first round was in the 5 inch circle. The other four all hit the target but were all over the place, haha.
We were firing from around 25 feet. I don't know if I would be very accurate much farther away.

Short barreled cc guns were made for self protection at close ranges. Definitely not for competition events. Sounds like you don't need as much practice to do the job, if it became necessary. Of course, smaller guns, if partially made of composite material (to reduce weight) are going to have a harder felt recoil than those that are all metal.

I would stay away from the aluminum jacketed rounds, never had good luck with them in my .380. I still have half a box of CCI Blazers that I tried and I would get a jamb almost every clip or two.

I wouldn't buy the aluminum jacketed. I have had a couple of incidents with the Russian made steel cased. They are a cheap brand of 115 grain, and once in a while I find a round doesn't have enough ass to fully operate the slide and eject. I will be using them to target shoot. I carry brass hollow points for defense purposes. I have to go out for a few things so I will be checking at Bass Pro and Rural King to see if by chance I hit it at the right time to pick up a couple boxes of ammo. It goes out as fast as it comes in. Chance of scoring any? Not good.

Well, I checked two places and YEP, both were out of any kind of hand gun ammunition. Nothing but shotgun shells on the shelves.

Time to get out the sling shot and pea shooter! Oh wait! They are all out of pebbles and peas! Hahaha! I actually have a sling shot. When we first moved here there was a neighbor that used to let their huge German Shepard puppy crap on our lawn every time she let it run along side of her while she rode her bike. I bought the sling shot and a bag of white great northern beans. If the dog stopped to crap I would sting it with a well placed bean without doing it any harm. I am an animal lover but it finally came down to my telling her that the next time is showed up in my yard I would bring it home to her in a 20 gallon leaf bag. She finally got the damned message. I probably should have stung HER in the ass with a bean or two. Her ass made a fairly large target hanging over the seat on the bike, haha. I still have almost 1000 rounds of 22 long rifle hollow points. Worse comes to worse I will buy a 22 caliber handgun. You can buy a 22 revolver for less than $200 here all day long. I have a marlin 22 rifle. I think the magazine holds about 9 rounds.
