It started snowing about 8 o'clock last night. A person had to look toward a light to detect a fine light flurry falling gently. This morning there is just enough snow to cover the grass. Probably about an inch fell here at the lower elevations. It still amuses me after all these years of living here. Schools that were still doing in person learning are all closed. Some that are doing virtual learning are closed because they don't want to expose the teachers and staff to the dangers of driving to work on the winter roads. the news is dominated by video and photos of highway crews diligently pretreating the main roads. The roads are just wet but one would think we were in the grips of a major snow event.
It is only expected to go up to 34 degrees today so my project to disassemble the heavy oak pallets will be on hold. They are too heavy to even drag into the garage. Had I given any thought to how much they might weigh I might have thought twice about taking advantage of the free deal. My neighbor Terry and I had to struggle to just get 3 them off the trailer and stacked in the carport. They loaded them for me with a forklift. I never gave a thought to how much 2 ten foot 4x4's and 5 two foot 4x4 cross ties in each pallet would weigh. That is 30 feet of heavy oak 4x4.
Once again it will be warmer in the Northeast than it will be here in the South. Boston is projected to be warmer than Miami Florida today.

I just went to Aldi's to buy a few baking supplies for Kathy and a bag of the ocean scallops to use with shrimp in an alfredo tomorrow night for supper. Aldi's sits in a open section on a hill. It was only 24 and the wind was blowing. I thought I would freeze my tender little butt cheeks off just getting to and from the store.

It got a bit nippy in here this morning. Last night our furnace quit & it got down to 59* in here. I called my guy who got here around 10. He checked it out & come to find out it was the t-stat, which I should have checked myself. Luckily, I had a spare one on hand. It was a programmable which I removed because they're a p.i.t.a. imho. He hooked it up & the furnace took right off. Tomorrow I'll go to Lowe's & pick up a simple digital model that adjusts up or down to the temp you want with a digital display & swap them out. Cold & blustery tomorrow with a little snow in the forecast.

We got one of the new programmable thermostats when we had the heat pump replaced a couple of years ago. In the two years we have had it they have replaced that thermostat twice. We are on the third and they still keep replacing them on warranty. They told me that a foolproof old fashioned regular thermostat like what we used to have is not compatible with the new Carrier Heat Pump unit. The old thermostat served two heat pumps over a period of about 30 yrs with no problem. They said the heat pump was 10 yrs old when we moved here and we put one in that lasted 15 yrs before we replaced it a couple years ago. They don't last for as long as a regular furnace does.

It is only 24 here at the present time. I woke up to 19 degrees. At least it is going to 44 today so that inch of snow on the grass will be gone. Possibly back into the 50's tomorrow. It is about time for you to be taking your cold weather back up there in the North where it belongs.
