news.aol.com/article/police-say-church-gunman-hated-liberals/102408You will see one phrase repeated ad nausium for the next 2 weeks - "hated liberals". There is no condoning or even understanding the hatred this man had to do what he did, but the media will paint a picture of gun-toting 3 toothed neandertals hunting for the nearest ACLU meeting.

I don't know if you saw pictures of the perp up there, but he IS a three toothed neanderthal, with a SHOTGUN!
I can't picture any individual taking offense at the Unitarians, unless they were of a fundamental Baptist church of some sort. He was recently divorced, and I will not be surprised if it turns out that his ex wife, has something to do with the Unitarian Church or something. There has to be a connection to that particular church, or he is just plain nuts. Maybe both, LOL.
There are some people here in the south that have some really extreme religious beliefs. Hell, we still have a snake handling church not far from here, although it is against the law in Tennessee. We quite often have one of those famous "God told me to do it" murders around here. A lot of people here have "carry permits" for handguns. You will not find it uncommon to see more than one person in Walmart with an empty holster on his belt. Walmart doesn't allow firearms in the store, so they lock their gun in the car, and still have the holster on.

Better than the gun rack in the back window. Don't tread on me and Don't bump my shopping cart! Since size seems to matter, I'll bet they start off with a holster for a snub nose and graduate to one for a 44 mag with a tag in needlepoint saying "Make my Day, MFer!" And, of course, you don't even have to own a gun.

You know it is funny down here...there are signs on the doors of WalMart, the mall, the grocery stores...everywhere, saying that weapons are not permitted. And pretty much everyone does have a gun. I don't, but everyone else on my cul-de-sac does.
Btw, I have friends who are members of that particular church. :-o

Strangely enough, gun racks are not at all popular here in Tennessee, because it is illegal to have a gun in a gun rack in your pickup. I don't understand the logic, but that is the law here. I had a rack in my last truck, and carried a fishing rod in the rack. I haven't hunted since I moved here, so I don't know exactly what the laws are concerning transporting a gun in a vehicle. Mine are in the gun cabinet, except for a shotgun and a 22 rifle, both kept loaded, one in the bedroom and one behind the kitchen door.
THERE WILL BE NO SUCCESSFUL HOME INVASION AT THIS PARTICULAR HOME! Haha!
One definitely thinks twice before flipping someone off while driving. You read quite often of road rage incidents where someone is peeked at over the sights of a pistol, for cutting someone off in traffic. I don't recall much about anyone getting shot, but I have read where people were arrested for pointing a pistol at another driver. LOL
I have always kept a gun loaded, with an empty chamber, around the house, since my children left. NY had just as many meth and crack addicts as they do here. The only difference is that in NY I would be arrested for menacing or for discharging a gun in the city. Here, I would only be held to determine if the shooting was justified or not.

Kim, here in NY State, at Gander Mountain Sports, I notice a sign that says, essentially, no guns, except pistols with permits. They don't want guys bringing in their deer rifles for service and carrying them back to the gunsmith. Scares some of the customers, these days. (You take the rifle just inside the door to customer service and that guy calls for a gun clerk to come up and get it.) As for concealed sidearms, Gander seems to not want to interfere with your right to carry a pistol. Walmart, with no gunsmith, bans guns totally, but they wouldn't know about a concealed weapon. Up here, I've been with people who are carrying, but I've never seen anyone walking around in public showing a pistol in a holster. Bad form for northerners. Some years ago, I bought a rifle at Walmart. What a riot. I bought it there because they had the best price, although it wasn't in stock. They treat a gun on order as an installment purchase, with two payments, a down payment and the final amount when the gun comes in. There may be some arcane legality to that, maybe to do with when ownership passes hands. Anyway, it arrived and I was notified and I went to the store. The rifle had to be transported from the Orders/Installments desk to the sports desk by a clerk over 21 years old. It took a while to find him. Then, after paying for it, I had to wait for the store manager to come and walk the rifle through the store to the front door and across the sidewalk and step down onto the macadam of the parking lot. Only then did he hand me the gun.
