wibx950.com/bjs-wholesale-club-in-utica-is-giving-away-free-thanksgiving-turkeys-to-members/Take a look at the the list of items from which you have to choose four in order to get the free turkey. It doesn't sound like much of a bargain to me. I bought a whole turkey the other day at Kroger's for 29 cents per pound with a shopper's card. I bought a 14lb store brand self basting turkey for $4.06 plus tax with no strings attached. We intend to roast a turkey breast for thanksgiving for just Kathy and I and the couple across the street, but I could not pass up the whole turkey for that price. We eat a lot of poultry. I buy turkey breasts whenever they are on sale. For the two of us a turkey breast makes a large turkey dinner and plenty of sandwich slices, plus enough meat left on the carcass for a nice hardy batch of turkey soup. I had them saw the turkey in half and rewrap it, double wrapping to keep it fresher in the freezer. Do they not run similar sales in the Utica area this time of the year? Butterball turkeys are still sold at the premium price of over a buck a pound. My sister told us that Walmart had them in their weekly ad for $1.58 per pound. I always buy the generic brands of self basting turkey and inject them with melted butter and turkey broth, rub butter and poultry seasoning under the skin before roasting, and baste them often. I have never had a turkey that didn't come out of the oven moist and juicy. My sis still follows in my mom's footsteps and insists on Butterball brand.

A turkey burger is so much easier. Just take one frozen from the cardboard box of 12 throw it in a fry pan and in 7 minutes. Victory! Make a salad and call it a day......

Turkey burger? Nope! Tried it seasoned and dressed a couple of different ways and just can't choke it down. All a matter of personal taste. I was not impressed with turkey bacon either but they sell a lot of it, so someone must like it. I think you read the cooking directions wrong. I think you are supposed to remove the turkey burgers from the box, throw them away and eat the box. LOL

I got that offer from BJ's in the mail the other day, tossed it. I rarely go there anyway. My membership expires soon & I won't be renewing it. We have't picked up our turkey yet. We may go to our daughters for dinner & if we do we'll pick up a turkey breast anyway. It's not thanksgiving without a turkey roasting in the oven. Honeysuckle White is our fav, so maybe we can find one on sale as they're a bit pricey.

We buy turkey breasts all year long. They are just the right size for the two of us for a nice Sunday dinner and leftovers for sandwiches. We eat a lot less red meat since I changed my diet to lower cholesterol and fat. Lots of poultry, lean pork, and fish. We still have a chuck roast once in a while, but I don't fill up on fatty cuts of beef and pork butts with a 2 inch cap of fat on the top anymore. I was just telling Kathy today that I have been feeling naughty and wanting a pork butt done in the crock pot with BBQ sauce for pulled pork sandwiches.

We make chuck roast once in a while done in our slow cooker. We stay away from roast beef. The last time we made one it was so tough a dog wouldn't eat it & 90% of it went in the garbage. Bought at Hannafords on sale. Now i know why.

We have been experiencing the same problems with beef here. The ground beef is swimming in water when you cook it, and the roasts and steaks tend to be tough as hell. The only place I have had a 50-50 chance of getting decent quality tender beef has been Sam's Club. We go to Kingsport to a small custom cut butcher shop for steaks but the last time we bought filets there they were tough as hell too. It has to be the way the beef is raised in recent times. Maybe their diet or supplements they are feeding the cows. Growth hormones may play a part. It makes me miss Hap's, Pulaski Meat Market, Chanatry's and Meelan's in Clark Mills. We have nothing like those places here in our area.

I haven't been to that market in Clark Mills yet. Think I'l check it out. We've been buying chicken & pork from Aldis & imho there's no diference in what they offer from anywhere else. It's cheaper & a product of the U.S.A., I checked.
As a side note a friend of ours gave us a bag of Utica coffee, Adirondack blend & I'm hooked. It's smooth, not bitter with a nice flavor. It's pricey though, about $10. on their website for a 10 oz. bag. Looks like the other half will have to cut back on her coffee intake or stick with her Folger's. Lol

LOL! Good luck with that cutting her back on her share of the Utica Coffee blend. You would be pleased with the quality of meat at Meelan's, and if you want a 3 or 4 pound roast they will cut it for you on the spot most times. Their quality is as good as Hapanowicz or Pulaski Meat Market. At least you have multiple choices to choose from. I used to buy quite a bit of meat at Chanatry's also. I just steered clear of Topp's, Price Chopper, and Hannaford's meat departments. Probably okay but I just didn't care for the quality.
I don't buy a lot of meat from Aldi's but I do buy the occasional whole chicken, and we love the little marinated pork tenderloins. I buy those 3 or 4 at a time. They cook in about 20 minutes or so in the air fryer oven. I buy a lot of frozen seafood from Aldi's. Shrimp and sea scallops are much less expensive than other places.

We have been buying our freezer beef from a small slaughter house. Barb likes it because everything is cut and packaged the way she wants. We usually try to split a quarter with our kids. A couple months ago we were running low and considering ordering more. They called Barb just at that time and said they had half a quarter available if we were interested. They cut it, froze it and delivered it. Can't beat that for service.
We usually get our seafood and some of our chicken from Casa Imports since our younger son works there. They have a cash & carry for the public.

You can't beat Casa Imports. Everything they carry is top of the line. Many years ago now when I still had kids at home my ex and I used to buy beef by the quarter. It would not make sense for just the two of us. We like a lot of variety in our animal protein, so buying in a large quantity would not work. We cook various poultry, meat, and seafood dishes over the span of a single week, but eat more of the lean pork, poultry, and seafood than we do beef.
When I was a kid my mom and dad subscribed to the Rich Plan in Yorkville. Our freezer was always stocked with a variety and they included burger patties, hot dogs, chickens, lunch meats, and frozen vegetables as well as a variety of beef steaks and roasts as well as pork roasts and chops.
We got sucked into a deal with a guy with a freezer in the back of a pickup truck once years ago. We bought some steaks that were guaranteed to be tender of your money back. I think they were recycled military boot soles, and when we tried to contact the guy he was nowhere to be found and the number on the business card was disconnected. Sometimes a good deal is not all it is touted to be, haha.

Since a large portion of their business is supplying restaurants, they have to deliver good quality. Our son and grandsons are here 3-4 dinners per week and the boys are at the age (11 & 13) when they are impossible to keep filled. We go through a lot of food for 2 retired people. Since son Michael pays for the stuff which comes from Casa both price and quality are great. I don't know what the quantity limits are from their cash and carry counter is.
