Kathy was cleaning one of the toilets yesterday with one of the round toilet brushes. She must have gotten a bit too vigorous in her scrubbing. When she was through cleaning she flush the toilet and tapped the brush on the rim to shake the water off. As the water circled the bowl and went down, her tapping caused the brush to break and half the bristled portion broke off and went around the bend to where I could not get it out. I thought about using a short piece of rubber garden hose to push it around the bend but then got thinking that such an action might not be the best idea. We just had the pipe replaced from house to septic tank. I certainly don't want the chunk of plastic, surrounded by stiff bristles to get clear of the toilet and then get stuck in the pipe, causing paper to gather around it and plug the main sewer line.
Well, hence the impending unsavory task of taking the toilet bowl loose from the floor, retrieving the piece of the brush, replacing the wax seal, and re-installing the commode. Not a major chore except for the fact that it is extremely painful to kneel on my titanium knees and as I have gotten older I don't get up and down like I used to. If I get down on the floor or ground I have to have a chair or something to push myself up and get my feet under me. My knees are still a bit tender from kneeling and getting up and down while installing the new bagging attachment brackets to the mower the other day. Woe is me, haha.

Always something! A couple years ago our drain line under the basement floor clogged up from our washing machine. Probably lint buildup, soap scum & what have you. I went to work on it using a snake & despite my efforts I couldn't clear it. I ended up calling a drain service & it cost me close to $300.00 for them to clear it.

The toilet episode turned into a half day project. I took the toilet off the floor and tried to push the piece of the brush back out through the bowl with a piece of rubber hose. That piece for one reason or another was firmly planted and would not move. After fussing with it for over and hour between having to drain all the water and take the bowl off of the floor, coupled with the frustration of not being able to remedy the problem, I finally gave up and went to Lowe's and purchase a brand new toilet. The rest of my afternoon and part of my evening were occupied by the installation process.
I am too damned old to spend hours up and down on my fake knees, lugging and tugging on heavy porcelain components, and laying on my side on the floor, squeezed between the toilet and the wall twisted in awkward positions to install the new toilet. I went to bed sore and aching last night and thank goodness other than some stiffness in my lower back I feel fine today.
Nothing is easy. The new American Standard brand toilet has a tank that is taller and narrower than the Kohler that I replaced, so I now have to paint the bathroom wall because there is a space on both sides that exposes a narrow strip of wall that is the previous color and sticks out like a sore thumb. Woe is me, haha.
PB, that photo of the stall with the red partition that has the labeled dreamstime.com reminds me of bathroom disaster I came upon at a local Wendy's one afternoon. Someone had backed into the stall and had a premature literal fecal explosion. It was on the walls, coating the seat, and all over the floor. If I were the employee sent to clean that mess I think I would have considered quitting my job rather than facing the smelly mess.

LOL. It is actually the half bath in the laundry room. The one that Kathy uses during the night. I will have to install a coat hook for her to hang her crown while she takes care of business, haha. On a different subject, how do you like your new apartment? Are you settled in, comfortable, and with less stress than in the old place.?

Glad you got the new terlet in. Nice job. Plumbing work sucks as far as I'm concerned, but I'll have at it when I have to.

The queen of the house likes her new throne. I hate plumbing too. When we first moved here I turned a fairly large mudroom into the main bathroom, removed the tub from the original bathroom and made it into a laundry room, but the house had the old galvanize pipe so we hired a plumber to completely re-plumb the house with copper and pvc piping. When he took the old piping out some of it was so filled with rust and scale that the opening wasn't much bigger than a pencil.
