Online certification course for handgun permit.

I just completed the 90 minute online course to get the certificate of training to take to DMV for my concealed carry permit. The quizzes and final test were pretty hard. They give you all the time you need to take it. You can start and stop at your leisure over a period of a year if you care to. There are five areas of training covered with a quiz at the end of each and then the final examination. Since I already have taken gun safety courses in the past it was not too difficult for me to complete so I did the entire course and test in about 2 1/2 hours counting a couple of coffee breaks to rest my eyes. Tomorrow I will print off the certificate and take it along with my DD214 to the DMV to apply for the concealed carry permit. Veterans qualify for the enhanced permit for the price of the regular permit and without doing any range time. The 7-10 day wait for the permit to come through sure is much easier than the 2 month long red tape process I had to go through to get my NY pistol permit years ago.

In the mean time it is legal here to carry a weapon in your vehicle, and to possess it in your home. You just can't carry it concealed or on your person out in public without the permit. Like many here in the South the handgun has been in my console in the truck when I am out and around, and here in my desk drawer when I am at home.

My prayers and wishes are for the control of the Covid19 virus and for an end to the violent protests, riots and looting so we can once again feel safe. know peace, and for the return of some semblance of the normal that we have always known. The so called "new normal" sucks. However justified or unjustified my uneasiness and fear of impending violence, I will just be glad when and if I am able to put the handgun in the gun cabinet and only carry it in the truck when we travel. I will just be glad when and if we are ever able to once again shake a hand or share a hug.

How do the authorities know you can shoot a gun safely and correctly?

My DD214 shows that I was a gunners mate in the navy and my discharge paper shows medals and awards received. I had both the expert pistol medal as well as the expert rifle medal. A couple of us blew any chance for the good conduct medal when were got into a bar fight with a couple of limey sailors in Singapore. Oops, lol.

LOL. Pretty much BHU. I guess I may seem a bit over concerned in going out and buying a handgun and applying for a concealed permit, but this is the first time in my 74 years that the credible threat of violence on an election day evening has business owners boarding up their windows and doors and others arming themselves against armed protesters, rioters, and looters.

Yep. Just in time. I procrastinated right up until the last minute. I would have liked to have my concealed carry permit before the election, but as long as I can carry with it concealed in the truck it will be okay.

We are okay no matter what happens. I bought groceries today. Just the normal monthy trip to Sam's Club for $124 worth of meat, poultry and a big 2 1/2 lb bag of jumbo shrimp for cocktails and scampi. I grabbed a package of 12 rolls of paper towels and a box of 36 Mounds bars for Kathy. She eats one every night while watching tv. Then a quick stop at Aldi's for canned goods and such, CVS for Kathy's prescriptions and a bottle of mouth wash, Dollar General for laundry detergent and Happy Star for Chinese take-out for supper. Before all that shopping I had a follow up with my heart doc. He says it is still beating and he will see me in 3 months. EKG was good and I have lost 5 more pounds since my last visit. Down almost 70 pounds all together since my heart attack.

How much snow did you all get. A friend from Clinton posted a photo with no grass showing. Cold as hell here today. 26 this morning and only warmed to the low 40's.

I finally cleaned out the rest of the peppers in the garden last night. Good thing because the plants were all frozen and droopy this morning. Tomorrow I will spray with a mix of vinegar, epsom salts, and dawn dish soap to kill the weeds and then when they turn brown I will torch the hell out of the whole area with my large propane torch that hooks to a grill size bottle to kill the seeds and get rid of the weed debris.

I am not looking forward to it, but sometime next week I will have to start the back breaking chore of tilling in some composted leaves and some freshly mulch leaf matter to loosen the soil. When spring rolls around hopefully it will till much easier than it has in past.
