I bought a bagging attachment for the new tractor yesterday, thinking I would just slap it on the tractor and get down to business. WRONG! $370 and 3 hours later I was finally able to get to work on the leaves.
The thing came with instructions for installation on three different models of Craftsman tractors. My tractor is a Troy-Bilt, but both are built by MTD and are identical. Sadly, though the item is interchangeable, but came under the Craftsman label there was no way other than trial and error to discern which instructions to follow to install it on the rear of the Troy-Bilt tractor. Different bolt hole patterns on different models as well as different brackets, bolts, and pins. I farted around by trial and error until I finally was able to stop cussing and put the tools away. There were no other baggers for that tractor available anywhere in the area without ordering on line with a 7 to 10 day delivery time. My leaves would be too deep to mulch by then. There are six Lowe's stores and three Home Depot stores in the tri-cities and naturally the only bagger available was at the store farthest away. Wrong time of year to be shopping for a tractor or attachments. Stores have either sold them out or sent them back to the warehouse for the winter. I remember when I drove a truck that Walmart had a huge warehouse rented in N. Syracuse entirely filled with lawn tractors and air conditioners. In spring the lawn mowers when back to the stores and the left over snow blowers were put in storage.
